LET'S TALK BUSINESS
Choosing
a Hosting Service: A Primer
by Maria Marsala
Are you ready for a web site? Not sure what to look for? Use this
article to help you determine the best hosting company for your
site.
Growth
Is this a company you can grow with vs. having to change companies
when you outgrow the service?
Customer Service
Many people start with a lost cost service, only to find that the
only way to receive customer service is by email. Choose a company
that offers you low cost services with a long distance phone number
for customer service. If you need a larger service, $20 a month +,
they should offer you a toll free customer service number.
Reliability
Do they provide information about their server uptime/downtime (and
possibly even provide a guarantee)? Do they provide you with your
own IP Address? (that's a special number identification system for a
web site, vs. the worded identification most people are familiar
with.)
Choices
The type of server you will need depends on the programs you want to
run for things like your shopping cart, affiliate program, web site
pages, etc. ASP, JSP, PHP, CGI, PL, CSS programs will influence the
choice of a server and vice versa. Your hosting service may have
windows (which for example accepts ASP but not PHP), Linux or
nix-based (Apache/FreeBSD/etc.) servers.
Email Accounts
How many Pop 3 accounts (Post Office Protocol) do you want?
Basically, these are email accounts where both the to and from
accounts are your domain names. The other type, you don't want as a
business owner are "alias" accounts where the to account is your
domain name, then it's transferred to your ISP/DSL account. Outgoing
mail does not include your domain name account.
Security
If you want a shopping cart, make sure that your site is secure, is
encrypted and has the programming capacity that allows you to
produce a shopping cart, too.
Statistics
Does your hosting companies plan include monthly and yearly
statistics on each of your web pages? Will you know how someone
found each of your web pages?
Easy
Does your hosting package include a simple to understand control
panel? This is especially important if you want to maintain your
site or have someone else easily maintain it. It's one place to
visit when making changes to your site, add addresses, etc.
Protection
It is easy to password protect a page or area of your web site? This
is becoming more important as web owners develop client, subscriber
and note areas of their web sites.
Web Email Option
Can you easily read your messages on line, when you travel, because
it has a Web-based Email system?
Pluses:
--Does it offer an ezine subscription service and if so, will it
accept both text and HTML?
--Does your hosting package include an easy to use web page builder?
--Does it include a way for you to send your files to the server?
--If you are building or having your site built with MS Front Page,
you want to make sure that the server accepts Front Page pages.
--What are the hidden, one time only, set-up fees?
Special thanks to my two favorite web design email lists

VALENTINE'S DAY
Roses for Romance
Valentine's Day is coming up and there is Love in the air.
Nothing says 'Love' better than Roses. Here are some romantic ways
of making Roses convey your feelings to your Valentine:
1. You can get bouquets ordered at a restaurant where you have
invited him or her for tea or lunch.
2. At home, you can have the bouquet waiting at the breakfast table.
3. If you have planned a breakfast in bed, your breakfast tray can
carry a single rose bloom or a hand-tied posy of roses from your
garden.
4. Tie rose blooms to the center of the ribbon of your wrapped
gift box where the bow is tied.
5. Place a ring in the center of an exotic bloom.

RECIPES
MARGHERITA WITH FRIED CAULIFLOWER
The crispness of the fried cauliflower and garlic with
the rippled noodles makes an unforgettable dish for late
fall or winter. Easy to prepare and satisfying for the
heartiest appetite!
Serves 4 - Main course.
Serves 6 - first course
1 lg or 2 sm. heads cauliflower (about 3 lbs.)
1 tbsp. salt
1/2 c. wondra flour
1/2 c. dry bread crumbs
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. freshly milled black pepper
1/2 c. olive oil
4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
1 lb. margherita (narrow rippled noodles)
1 tbsp. olive oil
1/2 c. chicken broth, heated (see note)
1/2 c. freshly grated Romano cheese
2 tsp. minced Italian parsley leaves (garnish)
Freshly grated Romano cheese (for serving)
1. Remove florets from cauliflower, including about 1 inch
of stem. Break or cut into 1 inch pieces. Wash thoroughly
in lukewarm water, drain in colander and set aside.
2. Bring 6 quarts of water to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon
salt and the cauliflower florets. Boil until barely tender
when tested with a fork, about 5 minutes. With a skimmer
or slotted spoon, transfer florets to a colander, rinse
under cold water and drain well. Reserve liquid for
cooking pasta.
3. In a shallow bowl, combine flour, bread
crumbs, 1 teaspoon salt and pepper. Dredge florets in
flour mixture, being sure each piece is well coated.
Arrange in a single layer on a large platter.
4. In a 12 inch skillet, heat 1/2 cup olive oil over
medium heat until haze forms. Add garlic, turn heat to low
and saut?© until lightly golden, pressing the garlic flat
in pan with the back of a wooden spoon. With a slotted
spoon, remove garlic and drain on paper towel; set aside.
(If you are not a garlic lover, discard.) Place florets in
pan and saut?© over medium heat, turning with spatula,
until golden and crisp on all sides; don't be concerned if
florets break apart while frying.
5. Meanwhile, return water in which cauliflower was
cooked to a boil. Add pasta and cook until al dente; the
cauliflower and pasta must be done at the same time so
that the florets will still be crispy when tossed with the
pasta. Drain pasta in a large colander, transfer to a bowl
containing 1 tablespoon olive oil and toss quickly.
6. Mix half of the cauliflower and any of the browned
fragments stuck to the bottom of the pan with the pasta.
Add saut?©ed garlic, heated chicken broth and Romano
cheese; toss well again. Spoon remaining cauliflower on
top and garnish with minced parsley. Serve immediately
with additional grated Romano cheese.
Note: If you do not have chicken broth, remove 1/2 cup
of the pasta water before draining and substitute for
broth.
BEAUTY
Tips
to Reduce Cellulite
1. Before showering, dry brush thighs in an upward motion, this
aides in stimulating your skin & muscles.
2. With a good thick towel, vigorously rub your body down before
showering, use a contrast of hot & cold water while you are in the
shower, ending in cold. Once more, towel rub your body down & apply
your choice of moisturizer.
