Mother's Day is almost
here and we dedicate today's issue to this wonderful day in every
woman's life. While it is great to enjoy gifts from your little
kids, it is also time to think of your own Mom and thank her for
making you the person you are today. In today's issue, I am, for the
first time, repeating an article. The article was in last week's
issue - 'Planning a Perfect Mother's Day' - I think we need it again
now that Mother's Day is really upon us. And we also have recipes
for a Mother's Day Tea Party (what is more perfect than a afternoon
tea party for Mother's Day), crafts kids can make for their Moms and

RECIPES FOR MOTHER'S DAY TEA PARTY
Asparagus Rolls
12 thin slices of white or brown
bread, crusts removed
50 g butter, softened
12 cold cooked asparagus spears
Salt and pepper
Flatten the bread pieces slightly
with a rolling pin. Spread butter. Lay an asparagus spear diagonally
across each slice of bread. Season to taste, then roll up. Arrange
the rolls in a shallow dish, seams underneath. Cover with cling film
until required.
Serves 4
Mexican Tea Cakes
3/4 pound butter
6 tablespoons powdered sugar
3 cups flour, sifted
1 cup chopped pecans
4-1/2 tablespoons vanilla
Cream butter and sugar. Add flour.
Then add nuts and vanilla, mixing well. Roll into balls about the
size of a walnut. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes in a 325-degree oven.
Immediately roll in powdered sugar.

HOMEMADE MOTHER'S DAY GIFT/CRAFT FOR
KIDS
Mother's Day Flower VaseWith Mother’s Day
coming up, fathers everywhere are looking for something simple
their kids can make for mom. There is a fun flower vase that can
be made with things that are around the house. This project is
simple enough that even young children can do it if they are
supervised.
Mom will cherish this one for years to come. I made one for my
mother when I was a child and she still has it proudly displayed
in her home, even though she has moved several times.
Materials Needed:
Soda bottle, I always used glass jars and bottles but I don’t see
why a plastic one wouldn’t work.
Masking Tape
Brown Shoe Polish
Directions:
Step 1: Remove any label, and wash bottle inside and out. Painted
labels are okay, make sure to remove any paper.
Step 2: Tear masking tape into small pieces and stick them all
over the bottle. Continue until the bottle is completely covered.
Step 3: Cover the tape with the shoe polish. Use thin coats,
enough to just color the tape.
Step 4: Let the shoe polish dry. Add another coat of shoe polish
if you want a darker color.
Step 5: Use plastic or fabric flowers. Putting water in the vase
will damage the tape.
Step 6: (if desired) Tie a nice ribbon or bow around the jar to
make it look like a gift.
