Hi All, I received the following message from singer/songwriter Hunter Payne and wanted to pass it on to y'all now rather than wait until I am able to compose a full newsletter. __________________________________ Hunter wrote: Hey Marli,
Was
wondering if you'd like to forward this story to your list. For the
past three years my wife and I have been volunteering for our
non-profit Aid Still Required, founded to go into post-crisis areas and
build build better with environmentally-friendly means.
Our
first project is a CD compilation for the tsunami victims. Hundreds of
thousands are still stranded over there, so we teamed up with Bill
Clinton's UN Office and the following artists to raise some much needed
money - Paul
McCartney, John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Ray Charles, Norah
Jones, Alanis Morissette, Avril Lavigne, Elvis Costello, Lucinda
Williams, Sarah McLachlan, James Taylor, Ani DiFranco, Shawn Colvin,
Phantom Planet, Beth Nielsen Chapman and The Blind Boys of Alabama (more info at www.AidStillRequired.org )
Aid Still Required has been also working with several NBA players
who are taking a stand for Darfur - Kobe Bryant (and eight other
Lakers), Steve Nash, Grant Hill, Tracy McGrady, Baron
Davis, Luol Deng, Emeka Okafor, Andrew Bynum and
many more. Recently we released a PSA on ESPN and Fox
Sports Net by Kobe which will be followed by PSAs by several other
players (Kobe's
PSA can be seen here - www.AidStillRequired.org ).
As
you may know, 80 - 90% of the villages in Darfur are in now ashes.
Between 200,000 and 450,000 thousand people have been slaughtered,
mutilated, raped (very often gang-raped) and 2.5 million are displaced.
The players feel deeply about the suffering these people are enduring
and want this story out in the open. They want to encourage the
international community to act to stop the conflict.
It's our mission to broaden awareness about these issues. Can you
please give us a hand?
All the best,
Hunter Payne
