Sitting in my SUV outside the store I just exited, I
was making plans to use my cell phone. To my right, another vehicle pulled
in beside me and parked. A woman got out of her car and went to the rear of
her vehicle and removed a child’s toy umbrella stroller. I noticed that a
little girl about 5 years old exited the other side and waited. She was
holding an armload of stuffed animals. The mother brought the stroller to
the sidewalk and proceeded to attach the material to the frame; stretching
and carefully snapping where it was needed. The little girl carefully placed
all of her animals and strapped them in. The mother then went and took out
her other child who was about 6 months old. They all walked into the store
together. I sat transfixed and amazed at the display I just witnessed.
Our world can be a harried, uncaring world at times.
This “Kodac” moment impressed me greatly and I realized with clarity that
this was indeed love in action. This young mother demonstrated to her
daughter how very special she was by taking the time to fix her play
stroller for her. I began to get pangs of guilt realizing that when my
children were young, I was constantly telling them to “hurry up!”
This young mother illustrated to me what it takes to be
a good mother: one who takes the time for her children when she is able. No
child’s need is too small and insignificant.
The Lord is our Heavenly Parent and He constantly wants
to meet our needs even though we may feel it’s too insignificant for Him.
We just need to be available and willing to allow Him to have His way in
our everyday lives.
Romans 8:16
The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's
children.
