I remember
it was as usual a very cold December in Germany and I was in
the 3rd grade and very unsure if Santa was real or not. My
best friend Lyne lived just below us on the 2nd floor and we
had made a pact to find the truth about him.
So on or
around December the 14th we set about asking many questions
to help us solve the question most on our minds; ???Is Santa a
real person and does he really bring us all the toys?"
I recall
asking my mom the list of questions and she always seemed to
have just the right answer. I would ask" If Santa is real
how can he come to our house if we have no chimney?" her
reply was ???We leave the door open for him so he can come
right in". I asked her how he came to so many in one night
and she told me he was magic and it was not the same time in
every place. I recall thinking this was true because it
took us day and night to fly over there to Germany.
My friend
asked her mom if Santa was real how could he live so long
and he mother told her that he was a Saint and had very
wonderful powers and that was why.
So at the
end of questions and answers we were satisfied it was
possible but decided to stay up just in case. We both got
all set up and I ran downstairs to make sure she was ready,
and she came up to make sure I was.
I recall
sitting quietly in my dad's chair and trying my hardest to
stay awake to see Santa. Well needless to say I was quite
young and sleep over took me and when I awoke Santa had come
and gone. So I ran to the balcony door and looked and saw
the strangest little foot prints all across it in the
snow. My friend and I decided it was from the reindeer and
we were sure that Santa was real because he brought us just
what we had asked for and had been very good to us.
Years later
of coarse I realize the prints on he balcony in the snow was
more than likely from the little bird who had a nest above
it perhaps he had jumped down and hoped across in the
snow. But for 2 young 7 year olds it was the foot prints
of the reindeer that pulled Santa's sleigh. We had no idea
of the difference in bird prints and deer prints. .
