Make a Ripple - Make a Difference

Greetings, Ripplemakers

THE WREATH—MY TREASURE
By,
Norma Liles

She is symbolic of many things; one as having endured the winters of life, of Christian immortality as our belief in eternal life through Christ.

Mr. Webster says she is a relic - an object surviving from the past and/or a personal memorial of a sacred person.

These symbols bring many things to mind as my eyes grace the beauty of the wreath that I have inherited from my dear departed Mother.

In my Mother's day, anything of value was treasured; not to be idly discarded for the new but to keep as a memento of days gone by and for those of the future. The value of the article was not priced by its monetary value but by its significance of its historic stamina.

I look at this wreath as it is held up by my front door with a strong feeling of it's symbolic value as I have stated previously, but as a memento of things gone by as I think of all the family history it has witnessed; the beginning of a wholesome marriage of my Mother and Father, the births of my siblings and myself and their heirs as they walked through the door that my parents kept sacred as the Baby Jesus' birth was celebrated from year to year.

I look upon this wreath with mixed emotions knowing that the greenery is not as bright as it was in earlier days but that it is a band of love that stretches across the years of love and devotion from our Lord to this very day. The red ribbon has faded but it's symbol of the blood of the Lamb may grow dim but the blood still cleanses as much today as it did when Jesus gave His life for us. The colored balls that grace the wreath have lost their color to a point and I could give them a new coat of paint but they represent the joy of being able to celebrate another generation of having endured another winter's life.

I consider it an honor to place this wreath on my front door for all the world to see that, although she be faded and not as glittery as she was in former days, she has stood the test of time and endless love and is a memento of the days of my parents to be honored as well as the birth of *Jesus*

"In honor and respect of this symbolic wreath"

"And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end."

Luke 1:30-33
