I recently received a gift
that was a star shaped box. On top of the box was a pink
breast cancer ribbon and the words, "A Survivor??¦". Inside
the box were several small stones with the words "laughs,
loves, dreams and lives" written on top. Each small stone
had a message on it but the message was said in just one
word. A survivor
laughs. A survivor may go through many difficult times
during their trials whether the trial is treatment for a
disease, pain from a recent surgery, or even the loss of
something or someone dear. A survivor must laugh in order to
survive.
A survivor loves. Anyone
who is a survivor can tell you that a survivor loves life,
family, and friends. In fact, a survivor has learned the
beauty of the world around them and they see everything with
eyes of love and appreciation. A survivor must love in order
to survive.
A survivor dreams. When we
are in the process of surviving, we learn to dream of future
events, wonderful outcomes for what we are doing, and
certainly dreams of our families and seeing them grow up. A
person who is the survivor of an illness must dream of
surviving the disease and being able to live. The survivor
of a shipwreck might be stranded on a desert isle but they
must dream of rescue in order to stay sane and survive. A
survivor must dream in order to survive.
I would add some more
words to the list for a survivor. A survivor has courage,
strength, optimism, faith, shares and hopes. Without these a
survivor is lost and can not fight the battle to survive.
A survivor lives. The very
word survivor means that someone or something has lived
through an event in their lives. A cancer survivor has lived
through treatments and perhaps surgery. A shipwreck survivor
has lived through the difficulties after the ship has gone
down. A survivor of a wreck or airplane crash has lived
though the trauma of the accident. A survivor does laugh,
love, dream, has courage and optimism, faith and hope and
strength and shares to keep them going. A survivor is a
living breathing person who has faced difficulties with the
aid of all of these things.
Are you a survivor? I am.
