Have you had your ???licks of love??? today? I have had mine
and plenty of them. Sometimes I get those licks of love and
they are not convenient but they are given with such love
that I can??™t say no. Well, you ask, what are ???licks of
love???? Licks of love are those sometimes sloppy licks that
you get from your best friend, aka your pet. My licks of
love are given to me by my
Dachshund, Fritz. Fritz is very good
at giving out those licks and he always knows when I am not
feeling well, when I am feeling distressed over something
and I get lots of attention from him at that time. He seems
to know that I am in need of a bit of tender loving care and
that is his way of showing his love to me.
Last night he wanted very much to give
me that love but was very hesitant. You see, he asked to be
let out last night at midnight and after I had gotten up,
put in the code to release the alarm system and opened the
door, I looked and he was headed back to bed. I was not
happy with him and told him that he was going out whether he
wanted to or not. I also let him know that getting up in
the middle of the night was not something I liked to do. He
went out, stayed a while and then asked to come back in. I
let him in and he immediately jumped onto my bed, not his.
Then he came up to me and I lay very still to see what he
would do. He has those soulful eyes that only a hound has
and he was looking at me carefully to see if I was still
mad. And yes, he does know if I am mad at him or not. I
was lying there and laughing inside because I did not want
to let him know that I was not mad. And to be truthful, I
was still a little angry with him. Finally he gave me one
big, sloppy kiss and turned over to go to sleep. All was
well in his world because he had given me love and in his
own language he was asking forgiveness for waking me up.
This morning I got a lot of good morning licks so we are
back to being best friends again.
Yesterday, a good friend Mary, said
that while she had been very sick this past month and her
fingers were feeling numb, her two tiny pups, Fancy and
Rusty sat in her lap and gave her lots of licks. She
believes their licks on her hand helped the numbness. They
knew she needed some love and they gave it to her.
We may not want those sloppy kisses or
licks of love all over our hands and faces but if we are
smart, we realize that our pets do love us, that they sense
when we are not well and they are doing the only thing they
can do to make us feel better.
I do feel better after getting those
licks of love. Do you?
