I read somewhere once that some people have rainbows in
their lives while others only have responsibilities. It
seemed to me that the person who made that comment must have
been a pessimist. I have many responsibilities in my life
and I think that each of them is taken care of in the best
way I am able to handle them. I, however, think I have many
rainbows in my life too.
My responsibilities are to family,
friends and neighbors. I do my part to keep my house in
order, pack rat and untidy person that I am. I keep my
family well fed and even in the case of at least one of
them, a bit larger around the middle than he was before I
started feeding him. Oh, okay so there are two of them; I
was almost forgetting Fritz and he is certainly larger
around the middle. I take food to my neighbor when she is
not able to cook for herself and to other people in my
friends??™ circle when they are ill. I don??™t work at a
salaried job but I take my volunteering seriously and am
doing my very best with that. I think I am taking care of
my responsibilities very well.
But every life should have rainbows. We
should have time to go out and chase butterflies, jump in
falling leaves and even run in the rain. We all need a bit
of magic in our lives. I have other rainbows in my life
that are the most important of all, my family. My children,
grandchildren and other family members bring many rainbows
into my life. They probably even bring some magic too but I
am not aware of that. Perhaps the magic is not seen but is
the love I feel from them.
Yes, some people do have
responsibilities and seemingly no rainbows in their lives.
Yes, some people do have rainbows and no responsibilities
that we can see. I am glad that I have both and that my
responsibilities allow me to enjoy my rainbows. I am glad
that I can sit back and dream about the magic in my life and
the rainbows that I am looking for in my future. Let??™s all
try to look for the rainbows in our lives as we assume the
responsibilities that we face every day. Let??™s all enjoy
those rainbows so that when it rains, we have the memories
to keep us warm and dry and content until another day.
