Make a Ripple - Make a Difference

Shiloh's Christmas Chronicles
by
Shiloh (and Kathy Baker)

Finally!  I didn??™t think Mommy was ever gonna let me make a story about my Christmas this year.  She kept saying, ???Shiloh, I will when I have time!???  What a grump ??“ all she cares about is the stuff she needs to do.  I love making stories, and I was getting really mad hearing the same old thing over and over and over.  One of these days I??™m gonna figure out how to run that typing machine so I don??™t have to wait all the time.

Well, we didn??™t get any snow in Kansas which was really weird.  But the morning we left Texas, it was almost a gizzard (dagnabit ??“ Mom says it??™s ???blizzard???).  After a few hours the snow stopped, but it got colder and colder all the way.  Most of the time we were up there we had no temperature at all ??“ yep, that temperature gizmo of Grandpa B??™s. had a big fat 0 on it.  Whoa ??“ maybe it was just broken??¦??¦??¦??¦.

Only one bad thing happened on the trip.  Yep, Hank threw up, but at least it didn??™t land on me.  Yuck!  Daddy had to pull off the slick, snowy road; Mommy got out her medicine bag, gave him a shot with a big long needle, and he was all well again.

Mommy almost fainted when we got there.  Grandpa B. had decorations everywhere, and even a bunch of brand new stuff.  He had lights and new reindeer in his front yard, and those silly deer even moved!  He had a new tree in the house, fancy stuff on the dining room table, and even lights on his deck in the backyard.  Mom just kept oohhing and aahhhing.  He really surprised her, and that made him smile a lot and look happy!  I guess she thinks 87-year-old people can??™t do anything.  He had pies, cakes, and candy all made from ???scratch??? ??“ whatever that means.  He only screwed up one place ??“ he didn??™t decorate my sump hole!  What a bummer, but I still loved it and it was still working really good.  I wonder if Grandpa gives it checkups and oils it and stuff?  Hank didn??™t think it was exciting at all, but what does a pup know anyway.

Best of all, Santa did find Hank and me in Kansas!  Wow ??“ that Rudolph guy must really be smart.  We had some great new toys in our stockings too.  I figured I??™d get some good things, but I don??™t know why Santa gave Hank anything.  Probably because he didn??™t want him feeling sad on Christmas, so I guess that was nice.  I was so excited with my new stuff, I could feel my eyebrows fly straight up ??“ then I looked at Hank and his were up too!

Mommy made us dress up for almost the whole month of December.  Yep, every morning we had to put on these scarves that had snowmen on them!  It really wasn??™t so bad because it kept my neck warm, especially in Kansas.  But that darned Hank was yanking on mine all the time.  I think he was trying to choke me to death maybe.  Sometimes he even undressed me, and I still can??™t figure out how he did that!

Now get this!  We came back to Texas and in about a week my Spelling Uncle and Aunt Vic came to visit.  Oh boy, I was so excited.  My Uncle tried hard to teach me how to spell a new word, but that darned Hank would not leave us alone so I could learn.  He really gets on my nerves sometimes.  Mommy keeps telling me ???Shiloh, he??™s just a baby Schnauzer and will calm down, especially now that he??™s been fixed.???  Well, I??™ve got news for her!  I don??™t know what they were supposed to be fixing, but I think they fixed the wrong part.  He??™s getting worse all the time, plus he??™s bigger than me now and he just wears me to a frazzle.

Anyway, Daddy and my Uncle went to that dumb deer lease place again.  I don??™t know what the big deal is out there.  They never take enough money to lease one for me to play with in my own backyard!  While they were gone all Mommy and Aunt Vic did was shop, shop, shop.  Then every single day they talked about stopping at a place with stars and bucks (jeepers ??“ so it??™s ???Starbucks???).  I don??™t know what they have at that place, but they came home really hyper, acting stupid, and giggling like crazy.

Wouldn??™t you know, Mommy got sick and ruined the last day they were here visiting.  But you know how dogs are, at least Schnauzers; we had to stay in bed that whole day too.  We might not be good all the time and we might give her lots of headaches, but we are very good curses (for Pete??™s sake ??“ ???nurses???)!

 I??™m tellin??™ ya, if it??™s not one thing around here - it??™s another??¦??¦
