Make a Ripple - Make a Difference

Peeps
by
Doris Fandal

Did you ever look to see how many candies there are on sale at Easter and in fact during most of the holidays??  There are so many to choose from that it is almost impossible to find one that is your favorite.?  My youngest son has a favorite that is not his favorite.?  Want to hear the story?

When the kids were growing up, each had a candy they really liked and I think their favorites were probably Heavenly Hash and Pecan Eggs.?  One day our daughter told me that Marc??™s favorite Easter candy was Peeps and would I make sure that I did not forget to get some for him when I bought the Easter candy.? ?  Well, I was a bit surprised at that bit of information but since she and he were pretty close, I figured she knew.

Last year around this time of the year, she finally confessed.?  Marc hates those Peeps and told her he wished ???momma??? would not buy any for him.?  I guess she got a guilty conscience or something because she finally came to me and told me the truth.?  I can??™t even begin to think how many dollars I have spent buying peeps and he doesn??™t even like them!?  Children do have their jokes and play them often but I believe this must be the longest running joke on record.?

This year when I started shopping for Easter candy, I couldn??™t help but reach for the Peeps because my hands have always reached for and picked up a lot of those candies.?  I did not buy any because I knew that the rest of the family does not like them and did not want to give them to Marc.?  However, Danielle, to make up for her previous joke, came in one afternoon with a really big Peep.?  It is about 6 inches tall and is a yellow stuffed Peep.?  I am putting it in Marc??™s basket this year!

Families play jokes frequently and usually the person who is the butt of the joke accepts it with chagrin and usually tries to get back at the person who has played the joke.?  I wonder what he might be thinking of doing to her as a form of ???pay back?????

P. S.?  Mickey and I found recipes for Heavenly Hash and Pecan Eggs and for many years spent hours the night before Easter making them for the kids.?  We used more pecans in our H. Hash and it was better than the store bought and the Pecan Eggs were much cheaper to make than the ones in the store.?  Yesterday I made a double batch of the H. Hash but our Pecan Eggs are a thing of the past.?  They take a long time to make and the kids ask for the H. Hash.?  Maybe next year we will make both.
