She toiled into long days
and nights, caring for a large brood of children.? Her
day was never done when the sun set in it's brilliant
sky.? The needs of her children and their father were
the highlights of her life throughout her entire life;
memories which are dear to my heart!
In those days of the
great depression, we were more fortunate than most
because my parents did everything humanly possible to
care for us; Dad working long days in any employment
that he could find, caring for his huge garden plus
doing all the necessary paintings and repairs that our
home required.
? We lived in a small
village where we cloistered a cow in a pasture at the
? edge of town which afforded us plenty of dairy
products.? We, also, had ? several egg laying hens,
pigs, hogs and honey bees; housed in their own
? hives.? As you can see, my parents thought about all
of our possible ? needs.
Our needs were met but
the one thing that comes to mind right now is the fact
that although they had a great responsibility for nine
children, they did not forget their neighbors.? A
lady, Ruth, lived up the street from us; had been
bedfast for years with some type of stomach problem.?
On a daily basis, my Mom would make a sweet milk
custard for her; the only thing that her stomach
accepted. I have often wondered how she fit in that
daily schedule with the responsibilities that she
faced.
My only answer to that:
'That's my Mom!'
