Yep! You read the title right. I do believe Onyx Two
Toes, my black Chihuahua with two white toes is Amish.
Here are some of my reasons for thinking this.
She doesn't believe in taking medication of any kind.
She will spit the pills out as many as six times until
they melt. Neither does she like fancy shoes, having
destroyed nine pairs of mine in a couple of months.
The plain old loafers went untouched. Onyx doesn't
like most people food, preferring plain dog food.
She loves gardening as evidenced by all the plants she
has pulled up, then dug holes in a different place,
for me to replant them. Onyx helps me with the
watering, standing wherever the water is falling to
insure that I am watering the right place, barking
furiously when she thinks I should move the hose to
another spot. Yes, she does get wet. However, she
takes a bath on a daily basis as she loves to be
clean. The final clue is absolute proof that she is
indeed Amish. She SHUNS me! Really, truly shuns me
when she thinks I have done something wrong. She
doesn't shun me for just an hour, nor for just a day,
but four days minimum and sometimes as many as TEN
days! When she is shunning, she will ignore my pleas
to come here. Turning her head a different direction
and refusing to even look at me. I beg for
forgiveness.
She closes her eyes and pretends to sleep. I give her
kisses that fall on unruffled fur. I pick her up, she
squirms away.........right after she turns on her back
and allows a brief tummy rub. I do not dare raise m
voice to her. She hates discord of any kind. Loud or
angry talking sends her under the bed. When she
shunned me for ten days it was because I scolded her.
Each night she would go and sleep in the bathroom.
When I would go get her, she would just go back,
sometimes
getting in the bathtub to sleep. After ten days of
punishing me, she decided to come to bed, but not
before she peered around the door, looking at me for a
couple of minutes. Then she relented, walked to the
bed and asked to be lifted up. I have my precious,
adorable, loving baby back, until the next time I
forget and yell at her! ssshhhhh!
Quiet please. We have a piece of work in progress!
