Make a Ripple - Make a Difference

Greetings, Ripplemakers

My New Animal Friend
by
Doris Fandal

It??™s amazing but today I made a new little friend. Fritz won??™t like him one little bit because he chases his cousins daily and if he catches them he bites their tails off. I know you are curious about this new little friend so I have to backtrack to last week.

As I was driving down the driveway to go grocery shopping at our local Wal Mart, I noticed a tiny lizard sitting on the windshield wiper of my van. I stopped and tried to catch him so I could let him loose in the grass and bushes to the side of the drive but he hid from me. He was a cute little

green lizard and had part of his tail missing so I knew he must have been an escapee from Fritz. Since I couldn??™t catch him, I continued to the store.

When I got out, I did not see him but a shopping buggy was right beside the van and I decided to use it. Imagine my surprise to see the little lizard sitting on the top rail of the buggy. I knew it was him because of the tail. I continued into the store and stopped at the "greeter" so she could see my rider and she took him from the buggy and back outside to a nice grassy ditch beside the store. What a relief to know that he was going to be safe!

Today, I was well on my way to Wal Mart again and saw another lizard on the windshield of the van. I did not stop this time because of traffic and when I got to the store he was nowhere to be seen. When I returned to the van with my load of groceries, there he was??¦sitting on the window on my side of the van. When I started to drive, he crawled to the spot where the mirror is attached to the van and seemed to be holding on for his life. The little suction pads on his feet were doing their job and he was safe. Each time I came to a traffic light and had to stop, he crawled over on the window and looked in at me as though to ask, "What the heck is going on here?" and I started talking to him. I also tapped on the window to get his attention a couple of times.

I think this lizard must be the big brother of the one last week but I am not sure. We have so many lizards in our yard that it is difficult to know if they are all related or not. I really am not afraid of them but don??™t like it when they jump on me from overhead. This one may turn out to be special so I am trying to think of a good name for him. I tried to catch him when I stopped in the garage but he ran under the hood and disappeared. I think he must like the ride.

There are so many ways that we can find entertainment and yes, little friends in this beautiful world that God has given to us. My little lizard friend gave me enjoyment this morning and I will be looking for him tomorrow when I get in the van. Everyone should look around and see what we can find that is beautiful and at the same time free entertainment. We might find that life is just a bit more beautiful than it was the day before.
