Make a Ripple - Make a Difference

Greetings, Ripplemakers

Broken Heart
by
Loren Moore

When Johnnie went to Gustine to visit our grand daughter, Amanda and her family, she spent four days.  She and Dennis, our great grandson had a ball.  This was the first time she had been able to spend any time with him by their selves.

They had a great time playing, fishing and eating ice cream together.  Well maybe the fishing wasn??™t so much fun, but that??™s a whole ???nother story for a different time.

The point is Dennis and Gran Mam each had the time of their lives.

The night before Johnnie had to go home she asked Dennis, ???are you going to miss me tomorrow when I go home????

???No!???

Boy this answer set Johnnie back on her heels.  ???Why aren??™t you going to miss me???? Johnnie wanted to know.

???I go home with you.???

Uh ho, Johnnie thought, I??™ve got trouble.  I can??™t take him home with me.  I??™m not use to little boys.  I raised two daughters and help raise two grand daughters.  Dennis is the first boy in our family.  He??™s been fun to be with, but when we dug worms to fish with that wasn??™t really my kind of thing.

When we went fishing in the horse trough and he fell in it like to have scared me to death.  I had to take a Xanax to settle my nerves.  I don??™t think there is enough Xanax in Arlington for me to keep Dennis for a week.

The next morning as Johnnie was getting ready to leave; Dennis was out in the back yard playing.  When she came out of the back door and opened the back door of her car to put her suitcase in Dennis ran over and crawled in.  Dennis??™s mother, Amanda grabbed him and pulled him out of the car.

???I go home with Gran Mam??? he squalled.

Amanda told him, ???No, you can??™t go this time.???   He ran to his slide and swing set, crawled up under the slide and folded his little arms across his knees.  He poked out his lower lip and sat there crying.

???Oh go Grannie, just as soon as you??™re out of sight he will go back to playing.???

Johnnie drove off but she had tears in her eyes also.
