Flying Flowers
I have said many times
that my diagnosis of breast cancer has given me a new
outlook on the things around me both in my home and in
nature and also in the people that I meet. I tend to find
more good things about the people I meet and the things I
see than I did before BC.
Today just before lunch, I
walked out on the patio and sat down in a chair beside my
husband. He was watching the many butterflies and
hummingbirds that were flying all around the courtyard area.
They were absolutely beautiful and so busily getting the
nectar from the many flowers he had planted in the courtyard
this summer. They would touch down and take a sip of the
bougainvillea, then the cypress vine flowers and then onto
the next flower of choice.
As we watched, we
discussed the beauty of each one and marveled at the way
they were going so busily about their business of survival
through their diets. Then my husband remarked, "Watching
them is almost like watching flowers flying around the
yard." He was so right! Each of the butterflies was so
colorful, we had yellow butterflies, some that were a
beautiful shade of orange that I had never seen??¦almost
fluorescent in their coloring and of course the beautiful
deep, dark blue that is almost blue/ black butterflies. They
were hovering over the beautifully colored flowers and the
entire scene was almost like something from a dream.
Shortly after that our
daughter arrived with her two young girls and they were
enthralled with the butterflies. They started running around
trying to catch them and of course the butterflies would
flit away just as they got to the spot where they were
feeding. Then Molly managed to get very close and instead of
trying to catch the beautiful orange butterfly, she stuck
her finger out and it crawled onto her finger. She was so
excited and so were we. In fact, we sat there with our
mouths hanging open in shock. It was such a beautiful
sight??¦a young girl with a beautiful butterfly sitting calmly
on her finger. But as with all wild things, it quickly
fluttered away.
She and her sister kept
going around the courtyard trying to get another one to
light. None did and they kept calling the yellow ones Sugar
Dot because years ago I had told them that butterflies were
angels in disguise and had said that to me, the yellow ones
reminded me of my mother, Sugar Dot.
What a wonderful day it
was for all of us. We had the peace and tranquility of our
courtyard filled with the beautiful flying flowers that were
not flowers at all, but beautiful butterflies put there for
us to enjoy. In retrospect, I think that perhaps God sent
those butterflies to my courtyard for a special reason. You
see, when I seem to be a bit "down and out" about some
situation, those butterflies seem to appear to give me some
sign that God is with me and that he is watching over me.
When the butterfly landed on Molly??™s finger, she was getting
a message that God was also watching over her. We had the
peace and tranquility of that wonderful day and another sign
that they were gifts from God.

Afternote: On the day
after I wrote this, I found that a tooth that had been
bothering me was dying and I had to have a root canal. I
truly believe that the butterfly that I always think of as
being "an angel in disguise and is really my dad" and was so
evident was telling me that God had sent the angels to watch
over me. I had the root canal and the tooth is fine. I am
thankful that God gave me the peace and tranquility of that
day and that he watched over me. |
