With fear and trembling, our sons and our fathers have
fought the good fight of freedom that echoes deep
within our hearts. This is not a fight that they
would engineer but one that must be fought to provide
freedom for those who live in these United States and
their allies.
It is with a heavy heart that I remember the days of
my youth when I almost forgot that I had a brother as
he was gone so very long while fighting the Germans in
North Africa and Italy. When I saw him, again, it was
like he had became a different person; wearing the
uniform with his pant legs still tucked within his
combat boots.
In my mind's eye, I can still see him standing on the
sidewalk outside our home as he stepped from the cab
which had brought him from the train station. His
hair had grown down into his shirt collar but he did
not wish to stop and take time to look more
presentable as he was so anxious to arrive home.
I
remember that Mother had redone his bedroom when she
found out that he was on his way home, finally. It
was as if her world was just becoming alive to her
with the return of our dear brother. He was not used
to having the taste of a good mattress under his body
so it was not unusual to find him stretched out on the
living room floor.
With these thoughts of those days, it is my prayer
that we citizens of this United States will continue
to pray for our troops who face the enemy, once
again. Raise the banner of freedom; fly your flag and
know that the men of our country will defend us to the
end!
In grateful thanks to all the Military who defend our
shores of those that they love.
Loyally, NormaLee Liles
