Make a Ripple - Make a Difference

Greetings, Ripplemakers

~ Containers ~
by
Doris Fandal

An empty container is nothing until someone sees its beauty or its usefulness.  There are so many types of containers. They are made of wood, cardboard, paper, plastic, ceramic, glass and the list goes on and on and never seems to stop.

A coffee cup or mug is meant to contain coffee but sometimes a pretty flower or small plant will change the cup or mug from something very plain into a beautiful floral arrangement for a patient in a hospital, the resident of a nursing home or for a teacher during Teacher Appreciation Week.

A glass made of crystal or just plain glass turns into a container for tea and with a sprig of mint and a section of lemon attached to the top rim, it becomes an appetizing as well as a beautiful container.

A crystal basket, a straw basket or even a wooden basket changes into a treasure with the addition of a few pieces of candy, some flowers or even filled with tea bags.  This basket would make a terrific gift for someone who loves beautiful crystal and its contents.

A paper sack filled with groceries is a heaven sent gift for someone who needs that kind of gift.  AND a paper sack that has been painted with a beautiful picture and then shellacked becomes an item that looks so pretty on a coffee table.  One might even place a vine inside in a small bowl and make the plain brown bag into an even more thing of beauty.

There is one container that is very special to all of us and so often we neglect that container.  A person is a container even though they do not think of themselves as being a container.  All that we are is inside this container that we call our body.  We have a heart so that we are not only living but capable of loving.  We have lungs that are filled with air to help us breathe.  We have a mouth that we fill with food that keeps us healthy and alive.

Our body container is probably the most important container in the entire world. Why then do so many people abuse their body by taking illegal drugs, smoking ...either regular cigarettes or marijuana, drinking too much alcohol and even overeating so that we have health problems.

As we age, our body container begins to have many problems that cause us grief.  We spend endless hours in a doctor??™s office hoping that he or she will know exactly what to do to help our body become well.  We need to be aware of the needs of our bodies and take care of them at all times.  We need to think of our body as our best friend and treat it with respect and love.

We won??™t get a second time to do over what we have not done when we had the chance.  Let??™s all take a look at this body of ours and do our best to keep it healthy.  Let??™s all take a look at our body and remember that we have a brain that allows us to learn the things we need to know, lungs to help us breathe and make more of an effort to keep it healthy.  There is a phrase that says, ???too little too late???.  Our bodies can??™t wait for us to wake up and take care of them; we need to give them tender loving care and respect now, not later.

Look around you at all the containers in your home.  Look at them with new eyes and see their beauty.  A container is useless if we don??™t see its beauty and capabilities.
