The Greatest Story
By
Bill Walker

The greatest story ever told or written.  Some say the Christmas story is the Greatest Story, while others say Easter.  What is one with out the other?  I think both together are the Greatest Story ever told, or written.

If you go back and look at the times, the place, the thinking of the people of the times, and even of the present day, Jewish people never accepted Jesus.  Things were in a mess then just like today.  Nothing really changes – just the actors in the play.

You see the people were asking once again for the leader to waltz them out of the mess.  They were looking to the sky for the man with the sharp sword in hand, and also a sharp tongue of a sword to take care of the problems.

Instead they got this guy walking about teaching of things like peace, good will, and talking about the Kingdom of Heaven.  Just who needs him and his peace, good will, and right now we are worried about the Kingdom here on earth.  Things were in one big mess.

Now this fellow, he seems to have a small group following him about.  He never seems to have much in way of worldly goods.  Just enough to make it maybe through the day.  Sometimes the group stands on the street corner and talks.  Sometimes they find a house to have a get-together.  I would think maybe they were preaching the overthrow of the government.  Maybe we should call up the CIA, The FBI, and the Homeland Security Gang of the day.  Might find some Liberals in the robes.  They do talk about feeding the poor, and giving a cup of water to the needy.

I have never figured out this Greatest Story ever told.  That is, you have to have Christmas to give you Easter.  So what is one with out the other?

I think the Greatest Story has to be Christmas, and Easter, and all the Bible tells you that happened between those two dates.

The Bible tells of a humble birth.  The power hungry were looking for a step right out of the Sky King to come in and take them to a new high.  The devil with this man of poor birth in the back alley of some Inn in some small burg.

The Bible many a place, tells us of this man and his travels about.  Just a walk from one place to another.  Kind of like that old song.  Just a walk with Jesus.  Then just like today.  People were not going on a walk, they was looking for a ride.

The Bible tells us of his talks with people about all kinds and classes.  I noticed he talked to every one.  Rich, poor, in-betweens.  A few Saints, lots of sinners.  Saints got mad and walked away or in most cases rode away in the Caddy of the day.  They told how pure they were, and just who is this poor bum on the street corner any way?

The thing is, the Bible told many places about this man coming, how he would come, and what was going to happen.  It is there in black and white.  In PLAIN SPEAKING.  One doesn’t need the latest washed-out re-write of a re-write of King James to understand.

The problem then just as it is today.  People don't read.  I have said it many times. Better look out Mr.and Mrs,  and Miss Saint.  And this goes for preachers of all types.  You never know.  That poor person standing on the corner, was that Jesus you just passed by with out a second look?

Now I know I jumped off of the path..  The thing is the jump off is what Christmas and Easter is about.   Jesus came here as very humble, died a sorry death.  He rose and is alive today.  He talked,, do un to others as you would have them do unto you.  All this is what Christmas and Easter is about. He came, walked and talked, and died on the cross  for you and me.  He is no longer on the cross, nor in the grave,  the Bible also fore told that before he came.  Remember one thing.  God so loved the world, he sent his SON to save your soul..  I think the word is, HE SO LOVED YOU  AND ME,  BROTHER AND SISTER.
