Hate Mail

Maybe one
shouldn't call it hate mail, might be more like brainless mail. Seems
like Leah and I both have received mail -- attacking people that live or
lived in the southern states and were in the storms of late.
I can't
speak for all, but I met many people that lived there, trying to recover
from the loss. I also met many good people there trying in this time of
need to help out. These came from far off places.
I know and
heard the stories most are telling. So let’s move on.
Most of
these people I met have one thing to tell. "Wish I was back in my home,
living a normal life. Wish I could get my insurance people to pay me
off. Wish I had never heard of FEMA." That is what one hears or
something on that order.
This
brainless mail runs like this. "Get over it, what you want? You want to
set and cry about your loss? So what, you lived there, the government
owes you nothing? Nothing bad ever happens where I live, why don't you
move to my part of the country?"
I myself
think a bit on the government owes nothing. In a way that might be
true, also very wrong. I can get on my soap box on that one. The
government does owe a lot to this mess. The Army Core of Engineers
warned about 6 years ago the dikes at New Orleans were in bad need of
major repair. Was said if repairs were not done the whole place and
even next states would be in great danger. But, the money was not
forthcoming. Seems much money was needed for some war. So, the people
in that neck of the woods were put on hold, maybe someday. We might
have a few million dollars for repairs. Right now we got to go repair
someone else troubles.
Now I said
maybe the government owes nothing. They do owe one thing. That is turn
up the heat on the insurance people. People that had insurance should
be given a fair shake. Just how would you like to have had a home worth
175,000 dollars? Have a total wipe out, and the friendly insurance
people say here is $40,000 dollars, go get lost little girl!
Now on this
crap about I live in a part of the country that never has bad things
happen. That might be, right now I can't think of any such part where
something bad couldn't happen. But I know one thing. Anywhere you
live, even in a small town of thumb size, I believe there is a fire
truck. There are house fires. Say your $175,000 home burnt to the
ground, you would like to see the friendly insurance man pay to rebuild
your home wouldn't you? Instead of saying, "Here is $40,000 dollars,
get over it."
While I am
on the house fire deal. Just came to me. The firemen saved your
basement. It is now a swimming pool what with all the water used in
trying to put the fire out. Here comes Mr. Friendly, the insurance man.
He says, “It was a FLOOD, we’re only going to pay for FLOOD damage, here
is $5,000 dollars. We found something like what was once a ROOF.
Let me tell
you something. Leah had insurance with the “you just fell out of our
hands people.” Before known as Good Hands Insurance Company. They said
they can only find what looks like a ROOF of her house, so will pay for
ROOF damage. I have been there. I do know what walls and floors looks
like. I had no trouble seeing such. The brick walls did not travel too
far from where they once stood. I had to walk a little bit to find some
of the floors, but I did find such. The funny thing is she after lived
there for 26 years, was told she must have had dirt floors. Also is she
sure she had a stick of furniture in the 6 rooms?
No, these
people want to be treated like a human, get what the insurance people
had the place insured for, not a dime more and sure not a dime less.
Isn't that what you would want in case you had a wipe out? The
government should help, I think, in getting such and also be there to
help out. What do we have a government for if it isn't to take care of
any part of the country that has a major bad to happen?
These
people are family. Anyone takes care of family first before sticking
nose in other people’s problems. If we have money to run all over the
world sticking our nose where it don't belong, we are a poor nation.
Let’s take care of our own first. Who knows, maybe something bad is
going to happen to your neck of the woods. And don't think it can't
happen.
Please
can't we live together, take care of our own in time of need. Stop this
hate of others who live north, south, east, or west. I have heard the
bright remarks about people who live south of a certain line on the map.
I for one am getting sick of such. I don't think people that live up in
New England are any better or any worse than those that live anywhere
else. We have good, bad, smarts and also stupids anywhere you look. I
don't think anyplace has a total of one kind. I’ve seen good people
from New England, people from most any part of the country there in
south Mississippi helping out. Those are the people that know, maybe
next time it will be me and my neck of the woods that needs a helping
hand. Not a hand out, but a hand up out of the mess.
In my time
on this earth, I have traveled to many parts of this nation. I find
people of all sorts. Some I find are good people; some I find are the
kind I can't say that about. Like the day I am lost as to how to find a
certain place. Get told some off the wall smart remark, like dumb nit
from the sticks of Nebraska. Well I have seen people from the big cities
lost here in the sticks of Nebraska. I for one like to think I said,
“Well here is where you are at, now go over 3 blocks and you will find
what you are looking for.” I think in time of need help one another
out, instead of bad mouthing them. Who knows, maybe next time it will
be you.
