Blue Bell Alarm
by
Loren Moore

I??™m here in my office typing out another story one letter at a time. I type very slowly because I can only type with one finger on one hand because of my M/S. That??™s the reason all my stories are in upper case.

Anyway I was click ??“ click ??“ clicking away when my Blue Bell alarm went off.  My Blue Bell alarm is something like a smoke alarm but it??™s different. A smoke alarm goes off when it senses smoke in the air. My Blue Bell alarm goes off when it senses Blue Bell ice cream in the house.

You say you don??™t believe that. I don??™t blame you, because no one else does either. Johnnie didn??™t believe me for a long time, but after seeing it work so many times she has become a believer.

She use to get the Blue Bell ice cream out of the freezer when I would be in the office writing a story and my Blue Bell alarm would go off. I would go to the kitchen and ask her to dish up a bowl for me.

She never, not once, got the ice cream out without me knowing about it. This made her a believer.

As I was saying, my Blue Bell alarm went off. This time it was a chocolate alarm. I walked into the kitchen and told Johnnie I would like some of that chocolate Blue Bell ice cream. She didn??™t bat an eye. She just reached for another bowl.  I can hear you now asking me how I knew it was chocolate. Well that??™s a whole 'nother story for a different time.

The following night it was fresh peach and the night after that buttered pecan.  I may never get that story finished but i??™m not going to miss out on my Blue Bell ice cream.

Johnnie always keeps the freezer well stocked with several flavors of Blue Bell and we have a bowl almost every night. No wonder I can??™t lose any weight. But then at my age, who cares.

I??™ll just sit here in my office click ??“ clicking away on that story. One of these days it will be finished and I??™ll send it to Starfish so all my friends can read it.
