From Larry, W2LJ - Fellow Hams, just a reminder that on this coming Tuesday night October 11th, is the monthly NAQCC 80/40 Meter Sprint.

This month's Sprint has a "Homebrew" theme to it. A certificate will be awarded to the highest score earned by an operator who uses equipment homebrewed from scratch (no kits this time around).

Frequencies: 80 Meters 3555-3565 kHz (Be courteous to FISTS operating on
3558 kHz)  and 40 Meters  7039-7050 kHz (Avoid W1AW on 7047.5 kHz)

Exchange:
RST - SPC (State Province or Country) - NAQCC Nr.
(non-Members send power level in place of NAQCC Nr., e.g. 5W, 1W, etc.
Be sure to add the W.)

See you on the air!

---------------------------------------
From John, K3WWP - First off, Tom greets all of you and asks me to inform you that he is in the midst of a Trailer Home move and is currently off the air, but he hopes to be back and active again by November. This has also caused an interruption in email to and from Tom so if you sent something to him, it will be taken care of, but it make take a little longer than usual.

The NAQCC celebrates its first birthday in a few days. As I write this, we have 1,044 members which I think is amazing growth for a club. I'm proud to serve as VP of the club, and I truly enjoy each and every one of our club activities. I find the monthly challenges inspire me to be a little more active than I would be otherwise and that is important in this day and age to increase the CW activity on the ham bands. Our awards serve to show that CW will work quite well with QRP and simple wire antennas. The club sprints with the emphasis on straight key use take us back in time to the days before the use of computers to do our keying for us. Pounding out the exchange with a straight key somehow just makes it feel more like I'm truly using Morse Code. HAPPY BIRTHDAY NAQCC and definitely a wish for many many more.

We've issued a few awards and award endorsements lately and that is encouraging. Here is a list of the recent ones:
Worked Members Award Endorsement - K3WWP 300 points from 131 members
1000 MPW Award #0014 to VA3RKM who worked EA6UN for 3,834 MPW
1000 MPW Award #0015 to VA3SIE who also worked EA6UN for 4,821 MPW
One more 1000 MPW Award is ready to be added as soon as the fee is received here
2xQRP Award #0001 for 250 points - K3WWP

It was also encouraging to see some reports of participation in our September Newcomer Challenge. Hopefully some (if not all) of the QSO's reported helped to instill a further love of CW in those newcomers involved.

Larry stated it so well above about the upcoming Sprint, I don't think I need to add anything to that. Well just a request that you do whatever you think necessary to appease the propagation gods so we will have better conditions than we did for the September sprint. HI

Our club call has been received - KB3MQT. I've activated it briefly and made 6 contacts so far using it. KI4DEF was the first NAQCC member to make contact and he will receive a special QSL certificate for that. Anyone else working the club call this month can receive a similar certificate for a small fee. See the Challenges section of the website for the October Challenge for more details on that. Also a couple of the non-members I worked with the club call have now become members or expressed an interest in doing so.

Finally a reminder to regularly check the club web site at http://www.arm-tek.net/~yoel/ for the latest club info - especially the Club News page. That is often the only place you can find out what is happening since we intend to keep to our schedule of only sending this newsletter twice a month.

73, 71 (more about 71 next issue) and CU in the Sprint.
