Special Treat – Mary Dees

Sept 17, 2006

I was surprised and humbled when I read this tribute to me by Mary, especially on this day, the day of my other baby’s birth.  My only child, my son Steven is 30 years old today.

My Dream

 Mary Dees

I was given a book for my birthday. It was entitled; "Picking up the pieces" A woman's journey, By Carol Roach. The founder of "Storytime Tapestry" and also an Internet Friend of mine.

My two children were surprisingly in bed on time, so I rummaged around trying to find a nightlight to read by. It had been too long since I read a book and I was exited to have been given the time to start this one.

I began reading through a few of her short stories and was amazed by how these life stories of hers sounded so parallel to my mother's life. All at once, I was enraptured. It felt as if I was setting Indian style in front of my grandmothers rocker, eating her homemade peanut butter cookies, listening to stories she would tell about her children. And those of my mother.

Only when my eyelids would deceive would I have to lay the book down and give my body the rest it beckoned for.

I turned off my light and fell asleep fast. I then had a dream. I dreamed of Carol.

In my dream, I was walking up to Carol's front porch and a man was on his way out. I looked at him and asked; Is Carol home? He then turned to the door and gave a little shout;  Dear, you have some more company!

Carol appeared in the doorway, and although never having met Carol face to face before she looked at me with a smile and said; Would you like to hear another story hon? She waved me in, holding a cup in one hand then directing me to her kitchen table where I would set down and have a cup of tea with her,  treating me as if she had known me since birth.

Carol in her zip up robe began stepping back and forth from counter top to counter top as if she were preparing a meal, all the while her lips never fell idle. She continued  telling me a story.

This is all that I can recall from my dream.

This morning when I woke, I realized that if I were to see Carol out and about, If we were able to recognize one another , she would give me a warm welcome and in real life she would again make me feel as though we had been Friends forever.

Carol, (so to speak), has known me at least from the beginning of my "new" birth. Since I have been initiated into this "Storytime" group of ours, I have undergone a tremendous amount of healing and personal growth. And my life, during these recent months has taken on an important turn torwards the person I was meant to be.

Much is owed to the accepting heart's at "Storytime Tapestry" and it founder, Carol. For this in her own words is "her baby".

It is gratifying to have the opportunity for my words and the words of so many others to dance upon the canvas in which we paint the walls of Carol's "baby room" page by page each day.

You are appreciated Carol (and loved)...Thank You!!!
