Subject: Special Announcement - Operation We Care - Sharon Bryant - October07, 2006

Storytime Tapestry Newsletter

The newsletter devoted to spreading love and cultural awareness around the world.

Note:  Operation we care is a project for groups which belongs to Sharon Bryant but is supported by Storytime Tapestry Newsletter.  Please send you comments and question directly to Sharon.

As most of you know, I founded "Operation We Care" here in Alabama.  I began this project when we first went into Iraq.

With help from donations from folks, I have been able in the past to send large amounts of boxes to our troops.  Last year, due to the lack of response from the public, I had to reduce my shipping costs.  I sent Christmas cards and DVD's to our troops.

I take care of camps.  Last year I sent the cards to Baghdad and because of the problems this year in that area, I am focusing on Baghdad again for this years shipment.

I cannot tell you how much it means to receive a letter or an email from a soldier thanking all of us who send cards.  I have been told many times that the support we give our troops is what keeps them going.  When I receive a letter from a soldier saying, "Thank you for thinking of us," it gives me a wonderful feeling to know we are touching lives of those who are so far from home.

We all see the news  and see the conditions in Iraq.  We see what our troops are facing every single day over there.

They need our support.

I am sending this out early so anyone who is interested can help lift the spirits of our troops,   It will be greatly appreciated by me and all those who will not be home for Christmas.

There is time to ask your local school kids to write a letter or send a card.  I had several schools get involved last year.  Local convalescent homes helped, and I cannot say thank you enough for all those who send a card last year.

I have a website for our troops and all information is on there as to where to send the cards.  Last year I sent 3,209 Christmas cards and 479 DVD's.  My goal this year is to send 5,000 cards.  I cannot do this alone.  I need the support of all of you to help me make this possible.  I have enough money that has been donated this year, to send out 5,000 cards.  I do not have enough to ship DVD's.  Many purchased DVD's at Dollar Stores where you can find the old movies.  The troops loved those.  I sent out many I Love Lucy clips, Gunsmoke, and old time movies.  The only request I ask on DVD's is no war movies.

This year this project is extra special to me.  My father who was a WWII veteran and who had respect for anyone who serves their country, passed away.  In his memory and for the years he gave, what he endured in Germany and France, for my freedom, means a lot to me.  When he found out what I was doing for the troops he told me he was proud to be my father.

NBC network in my area is airing this project once again this year.  Hopefully, viewers will step up to the plate and make this year a big send off for our soldiers.

God Bless,
Sharon Bryant
