Just a Reminder

It is said that voters only have a memory that goes back ninety days. So people that do shabby things while in office, as long as it's not too over the top or violates whatever's on the current sacred cow list, can generally get off with some kind of pathetic public apology. It seems like somebody is always apologizing for something these days. But the right people don't always apologize. Where is the apology from the people who created television crap like Fear Factor or America's Top Models? They need to be on their knees begging for forgiveness. But I'm not holding my breath. By the way, I'm still waiting for apologies from the hack preachers that got the faithful all worked up about Doomsday during Y2K. When nothing happened not one of them (that I know of) went to their pulpits to apologize for using God's pulpit in a disgraceful manner. What else is new?

And where are the apologies from magazines like Newsweek and Time? For what? Well, in 1975 Newsweek ran an article citing "ominous signs that the earth's weather patterns have begun to change dramatically" and warned of an impending "drastic decline in food production". Scientists were urging governments to head off this terrible threat. If you'd been following the debates at that time you'd know that this threat was global cooling. That's right. Global cooling, not warming. Time also ran like stories.

Don't wait for apologies. Of course now the same Chicken Littles are at it again, this time on the side of global warming. That only heads the list. There is no shortage of things you and I are supposed to fear. A fearful people are an easily manipulated people. And if you don't think they know that you're probably somebody who expects to be able to quit your job when you win that lottery.

The fear mongers have always been with us. They can only manipulate us when, like children hearing ghost stories around a campfire, we walk in fear. We get bombarded with this stuff so much it can creep into us without our realizing just how much we've become contaminated. There is only one defense.

I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. - Psa. 16:8

Just a reminder.
