Storytime Tapestry Newsletter The newsletter devoted to
spreading love and cultural awareness around the world. SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM ROSANNE
CATALANO, PUBLISHER OF THE CAT'S MEOW FOR WRITERS
& READERS EZINE! Fed
up with the child support system and her ex-husband’s invisible presence in
their children’s lives, single mother of four, Trisha Martin
decided to take matters into her own hands.
Martin, who has been raising her children for the past six years without
the help of her ex-husband, was sick and tired of being sick and tired. “I quit my full-time job of thirteen years to
start my own business so that I could be more available to my children,” the
published author and entrepreneur says.
“I have made major sacrifices for the sake of my family and we have
suffered tremendous financial hardship because of them,” she added. On the verge of homelessness because of a
foreclosure on the home that she struggled to keep for five years even after
her husband left, she and the children moved into property owned by her
family. Without the burden of a double
mortgage, the creative spirit racked her brain to figure out a way to use her
gift of writing to prosper her family. With
one book, “My Naked Mind: An Intimate
Collection of Poetry,” already published
and more books to follow, the author set out to find another medium to use her
gift; something people would purchase quicker than perhaps a book. Trisha noticed that
t-shirts were being worn by everyone from newborns to very grown folk. She had
to tap into that market with a catchy slogan.
Deciding to incorporate what had gotten her family into the mess that
they were in and what could revive them, she opted on the phrase, “Got Deadbeat???” Watching BET
music videos religiously, she had seen various t-shirts worn by rappers with
the Got “something” phrase on them.
That’s where she got the idea to change the famous “Got Milk?” slogan to
“Got Deadbeat???” “Deadbeatism,”
in her opinion, is the root of our society’s demise. The phrase doesn’t necessarily have to apply
to only deadbeat dads, as it was originally coined. There are deadbeat dads, moms, kids, spouses,
boyfriends, girlfriends, bosses; the list can go on. In her efforts to beat the financial crisis
that can be created because of a deadbeat parent’s failure to meet their
monetary obligations to their children, Martin has plans of starting a charity where a portion of the proceeds
from the sales of the t-shirts will be used to help families in her community
who, like her own family have struggled with the purchase of even basic needs
such as clothes, shoes, toiletries, and sometimes, even food. To
kick off the war on deadbeats, Trisha Martin has designated For more information contact: Trisha
