Storytime Tapestry Newsletter The newsletter devoted to
spreading love and cultural awareness around the world. All About Dreams – A
Martha Jette Column Martha Jette, friend and author will now be taking over
the dreams column formerly presented by Parthena Black of Bella Online. Many of you know Martha and will agree that
her columns are always fresh and exciting.
Martha explains the unexplainable with style and grace. Analyzing your dreams can be insightful and fun The other night, I had a very strange dream. I was at a
party, but remained for the most part in the kitchen cleaning up. On the
counter, I found a long lock of brown hair. To ensure that it didn’t get
scattered all over the place, I frantically looked for an elastic band to tie
it up. However, each time I found one, the band broke in my hand. Finally, I
gave up, put the hair in a plastic bag for safekeeping and tied it up. Now, what could all of that mean? Traditionally, long
hair denotes not only vanity, but also a woman’s sense of her own powerful
femininity. And I have to tell you that I’m figuring this one out as I write
and it makes perfect sense to me. You see, I have been on my own for a very long time, with
no male companionship, comfort or support. I believe this dream expresses the
fact that I have placed both my own vanity and femininity on the shelf, so to
speak. I have tied them up and basically put them away for safe keeping, as I
no longer have need of them. In the same dream, I eventually went to the living room
where the party was in full swing. One woman brought up the subject of Donald
Trump and said she’d like to make love to him. Eeeew! Anway, I pulled the woman
aside and told her not to bother even thinking about it. I told her I’d already
done so (which of course, I haven’t) and he’s a real bore in bed! Okay, I hear you all laughing and rightly so. Well, I
didn’t need to look this one up, as I’d watched “The Apprentice” the night
before. Obviously, I’d somehow managed to bring this stuffy businessman into my
dream. And believe me when I tell you: he is definitely not my type! Here are some dream interpretations related to various
types of clothing: A)
Tight Clothes: Wearing tight clothes in a dream
symbolizes a feeling of being constricted at work, self-conscious in public or
inhibited in an intimate relationship. B)
Loose Clothes: Wearing loose clothes might mean you may
be attempting to conceal your true form (or identity). However, it could also
denote a desire to be free of constraints and inhibitions. C)
Other People’s Clothes: Dressing in other people’s
clothes suggests difficulty accepting who you really are. D)
Shabby Clothes: To find yourself in shabby clothes or
rags denotes feelings of inferiority or low self-esteem. This may be a warning
against falling into feelings of self-pity. E)
Dress or Skirt: Since many women now wear jeans or
trousers, this dream may indicate a desire to be more feminine. F)
Cloak: A cloak denotes a desire to hide something – to
conceal a secret about yourself. G)
White Gloves: denotes a preoccupation with purity or
calm. Taking them off indicates a desire to be honest when dealing with someone
else. H)
Pullover: If you dream that your pullover is unraveling,
it indicates a growing sense of disillusionment with someone you previously
admired. I)
Hats: Jung believe a hat symbolized thought and that
dreaming of changing hats indicated a person was at a stage in his or her life
where their views, outlook and direction were changing. J)
Tartan: this plaid has long been associated with the kilt
and long shawls of traditional Scottish male dress. More recently, we saw
tartan as a sign of strength and virility in the film Braveheart. To dream of
the tartan indicates a need to draw upon the more masculine aspects of
yourself. K)
Turban: Devout male Muslims and Sikhs wear turbans as a
symbol of dignity, strength and authority. Turbans also make one think of
Eastern mysticism that is more indicative of one’s spirituality. To dream of a
turban may therefore indicate a desire for more authority or a need to delve
further into one’s spiritual side. L)
Belt: Symbolically, a belt is used to hold up one’s
trousers and may mean you feel anxious about keeping up with your public
appearance. A belt, of course, can also be restrictive, so loosening your belt
may indicate feelings of guilt about being “caught with your pants down” so to
speak. M)
Mask: If you find yourself wearing a mask in your dream,
it suggests you are putting a false face on for others. A pair of masks, on the
other hand, symbolizes your duality – the opposite forces of light and
darkness. N)
Boots: To see boots in a dream may indicate your desire
to “give the boot” to someone or something that has been dominating your life.
Changing boots suggests a change in status or personal fortune. O)
Fur: Freud associated fur with public hair. (Weird!)
Anyway, to dream of being wrapped in fur suggests a desire to return to the
security of life in the womb. P)
Underwear: To dream of under garments indicates a need to
keep certain feelings “under wraps.” If you find yourself in public in your
underwear and feel ashamed, it means you fear letting others know your true
opinions. Q)
Armor: If you find yourself dressed like a knight, it
suggests a need to protect yourself against life’s “slings and arrows.” R)
Chains: If you are bound in chains in your dream, it
indicates unhappiness with current commitments to work or a relationship.
Broken chains suggest needing to confront your own discontent. S)
Lipstick: Freud of course, related lipstick to sexuality
and the actual lipstick as a phallic symbol. However, if the lipstick is
smeared on the face of body, the dream expresses a fear of sexual violence. T)
Jewels: These valuables relate to the qualities you value
the most in yourself and others. For instance, Diamonds represent clarity,
integrity and perfect wisdom, while sapphires symbolize hope, joy and high
aspirations. Rubies evoke the hot blood of passion and ecstasy, and emeralds –
the stones of fertility and regeneration. U)
Pearls: Pearls have become a symbol of femininity, love
and marriage. Freud viewed pearls as a symbol of female sexuality. Jung, on the
other hand, saw pearls as a need to transcend earthly matters and reach for
higher spirituality. V)
Ring: A ring is a symbol of matrimony, commitment and
completion. Hence, dreaming about a ring may indicate that you have found
closure or have accepted the end of a relationship or other loss. Reference: 1001 Dreams by Jack Altman P.S. - If you take my advice only 1 time this year, take http://www.intensivegiveaway.com/thank-you.php?id=3813 Martha Jette, Editor & Author Please take the time to visit my site! |
