I Think He Turned the Tables...

Ina Townsend Young

Early one morning last fall, my son heard a brouhaha a-brewing in the downstairs apartment from his.  When he looked out the window to see what was going on, he witnessed a male attacking his female downstairs neighbor.  I was ever-so-proud when he told me about dashing outdoors and confronting the miscreant; chasing him away.  Sonny Boy being a blackbelt is a good thing.

About a month ago, my son broke his knee in an alcohol/billiard ball related mishap.  He has spent a good deal of time out of work, healing.  He was able to return to work about a week ago.

This past weekend, he went to the local drinking establishment with his roommate, roomie’s friend and said friend’s girlfriend.  Roomie’s friend became a bit belligerent while they were all imbibing and on the walk home, decided to start beating on his girlfriend.  Of course, Sonny Boy was not having any part of that.  He defended the honor and physical well-being of the young lady in question by pummeling the newest miscreant into the ground.  He may have went a bit overboard due to the combination of  alcohol ingestion along with his need to make sure the bully didn’t come back after him; being more vulnerable due to his healing knee.

This morning, Sonny Boy received the mandatory lecture from his mother.  As proud as I was of him for coming to the defense of yet another helpless and hapless female in our new hometown, I wanted to make sure he knew the possible repercussions if he seriously hurt someone.  He listened and kept his mouth shut.

I then proceeded to tell him about a situation at work where I felt the rights of my patients were being violated by my boss.  I’ve been absolutely furious over this for several days.  I told him that I was planning on calling the Board of Mental Health later in the morning to report this and see what could be done.  I waxed vociferous on the issue for several minutes.

He then looked at me and said “So, do you ever wonder where I get it from?”

I ask you, was that fair?

A Tribute To The Fair Princess Of Spring
Cynthia Groopman

Oh, fair princess of spring, you have finally arrived to crown
our winter-weary souls with your majestic splendor and grace
us with your beauty.
Your vibrant cheerfully charming voice softly echoes
in the sweet loveliness of the melody of hummingbird's song.
The gentle mild breeze gently tosses the leafy trees
as they sway to and fro in sprightly dance.
Your stunning elegance radiates in the colorful sparkling
rainbow of beautiful floral bouquets
that softly perfume the mild air with such a delightful fragrance.
Carpets of lush green velvety grass richly adorn the landscape
golden sunshine glow of springtime glory.
Your regal warmth and smiles have graced us
with feelings of deep fascination and awe.
For spring, you lovely princess has enlivened and enriched
the sleepy earth with deep inspiration to fulfill the God
given promise of hope, renewal and rebirth

 A Tribute To God
Cynthia Groopman

From the deep blue sea to the high mountain peak,
We hear His resounding voice awesomely speak.
But before there were oceans so deep,
And the sky so infinitely high above,
There was the eternal living God,
Who created everything with splendor and abounding love.

The brightly colorfully twinkling star,
And the sun's brilliant golden glow,
Are treasures of awe
For us to eternally cherish and adore.

For God, You are the exalted One,
Mighty and so caring in everything
That You have marvelously done,
For You blessed everyone.
You are our rock and our merciful King,
And we lovingly praise you
In songs of joy that we happily sing.
For you gave form and life to everything great and small,
Bestowing your fatherly protection and blessings to all.
For God, precious, beloved and hallowed You shall always be,
And Your grandeur will reign majestically.

Weather Changes

By: Cynthia Groopman

Oh, weather, how quickly do you change,

It is really annoying and so strange.

One day we are basking in the summertime air,

Then, winter begins to return with a renewed forceful flare.

Rain begins to pour incessantly,

As the clouds adorn the gray sky frownfully.

Cold air rushes in on the wind's wings,

Oh, poor birds, so cold and tired to sing.

We do not know how to dress as we venture out,

confusion is what

the situation is all about.

Oh, rapid changes in the weather give headaches and pains,

In addition to snow, wind, and cold pouring rains.

Oh, weather, why don't you learn to behave in a pleasant

way,

As we long for a warm, sunny, beautiful springtime day.

The Evening's Coolness
Cynthia Groopman

As the radiant sunshine glow begins to gradually fade,
Bathed am I, in the coolness of the evening shade.
Embrace tenderly by a splendid caress of refreshing fresh air,
My weary soul is renewed with sudden flare.
Softness and comfort adorns my heart,
As the stressful events of the day begins to depart.
Oh, coolness of the evening you are so alluring to me,
Enfolding me into God's warm loving arms of love and tranquility.
