The Home Town Store

Bill Walker

missourisage@yahoo.com

The home town store is just that.  I remember back when this store opened the doors for the first time. I think that was in 1949.  A couple fellows went together putting this food store in, it has change owners a few times, but it stays, and is known as the Home Town Store.  Beatrice Super Market.  I like going there to buy my few supplies of food.  No one will get rich off of me, but this is the place I like waltzing in and out of.

The Big may come and go, but a store like this is going to make it.  The Big named might make a lot of noise about how Big they are, that is true.  The Big might have the flunkies  standing about with the silly jackets, and the silly smile.  But it is just a put on act.  Super Market, I can walk into, get my things, and if the boss is there I will get a "Hi.". I will get a "Hi"  from others that work there.  Some knows me by name,  I can't say I know their name, but they know me.  Well once in a while I pass a story to one now and then.  Guess they do read them, and find my name on the paper.

I think a store like this should never fear a big operator like the Big name for one reason. The Home Town Store, the people there knows the people that comes in the door. The smile the few words said is real talk, not the forced on to me to say "Hi," and put on the silly grin, or smile.  The Home Town people knows the person that walked in the door.

There is another thing about the Home Town Store.  Your goods is sacked up for you, and if you need help getting the bags to the car, well we will be so happy to help you, rain or shine, no problem. A little something that just isn't done any more by the Big.  This is the Home Town Store.

Now some says the Big has better prices, you get more for your buck.   You know there again is a maybe, and a maybe not.  I have found over all buying at the Home Town Store, I break about the same over all on amount of money spent.  Plus I don't walk a mile to get my needs, and get a run over by the over sized golf carts people are pushing.  Plus I get a friendly smile that is real in every row I walk. I have found prices higher at the Big on lots of things.  Anyways the things that I buy, so this old fellow is going to stick to my Home Town, Home owned store.

Oh and if your shopping, and need a cup of coffee and a cookie,  yes there is a little table, and the coffee pot is going.  Pull up a chair, and set a spell. Maybe you need a cool drink of water, got that right handy also.. And yes they do have a rest room, if you happen to need one. I think better have another cookie,, dad gum things getting stale.  Maybe better buy a package, them pretty good cookies.

Yes I think the owner has no need to fear the Big,  this store will be here when the Big has folded.  He has the secret of how to keep the doors swinging, and the cash register working.

An April Surprise

Cynthia Groopman

Merrily chirping birds did awake me,

As my heart was dancing sprightly.

When I saw the sun

so gloriously bright,

I marveled at god's majestic beautiful creation sights.

Summer with embraces so warm and smiles so radiant,

Tiptoe

y into my garden of life so lovely and fragrant.

Temperatures did rise to summertime highs,

Charming us by clear deep blue lovely skies.

.

As I walked in the sweet perfumed summertime air,

God was smiling with exquisite flare.

For to have summertime in April is indeed a gift and

cherished surprise,

Oh, my prayers were answered as the temperature did rise.

If Silence is Golden

Norma Liles

If silence is golden

I'm in a heap of trouble

If silence is golden

Then I should live in a bubble?

If silence is golden

I could never lay the proverbial egg

If silence is golden

I will have to lie down and beg?

If silence is golden

Where does it leave this gal

If silence is golden

Life may find me without a pal?

In my life, silence is not golden

It is not colorful enough for me

Someday when I am 'olden'

I may sit under a tree that is molden?

 ©God is fundamental love…

Barbara Weymouth

From a humble stable he came

To an old rugged tree upon Calvary

To lay his life down for you and for me!

He hears every prayer we pray and he

Walks beside us each and everyday!

Our Lord is full of fundamental love…

Pure and simple raining down from above

He meets us just where we are, just as we are

He takes us and carries us in his mighty arms

When we are too weak to walk on our own

He’s always there waiting anxiously for us to call

Upon his name…

Behold he is knocking on the door of your heart,

Won’t you let him in today... Such glory will fill your soul!

No greater love, no greater friend, the alpha and

Omega, Love everlasting…  Love without end…!
