Wounded and injured bird

Tannia Ortis-Lopes

Dear Jesus:

Yesterday my older son found an injured bird This bird was a real fighter and gave us a hard time catching him to examine and see what was the matter with the bird’s wind.

After chasing the frighten little fellow from my front yard to my backyard, I was able to grab him with my hands. His heart was pumping so fast I thought it will come out of his chest! I carried him gently and placed him inside a bucket with some water to refresh himself and to allow him to drink. Before we knew it, the little fellow „flew“ out of the bucket and the chase started again around my backyard. As we were trying to catch him, he will yell for help but no other bird came to his rescue.

I thought to myself, this little fellow reminded me of our relationship. How many times you had to chase me away from bad situations but I was so afraid and injured I didn’t understand you wanted to hold me and rescue me from evil and put me in a safe place to rest and regain my energy, etc. But instead of resting and refresh myself, I ran away every time I had a chance. And once again you and your army of angels and other loyal subject went out again on the “hunt for me“.

We caught the bird and realized this injured bird had survived a battle; perhaps escaped from being the cat’s or squirrel lunch - a happy but injured bird and a hungry and upset cat or squirrel searching for lunch again. The bird had a broken wind and the foot from his right leg was missing.

Who said handicap animals are slow? This little fellow showed me the courage to survive comes from within and not from outside. He taught me to always be in the look out so I don’t get caught sleeping and become a victim of the evil one. He taught me to be strong and brave even though he was missing a piece of his leg and had a broken wing.

After further discussion, we took him to a veterinary clinic and dropped him there for further care and rehabilitation since neither one of us knew how to take care of him. At the veterinary clinic, the bird will be taken care of so he could go back to the wilderness where he came from and where he belongs!

Lord, your ways are always comforting. But just like the injured bird, I get frighten and run away with whatever strength is left inside me.

But no matter how much I try to go,

yo always gently find me

and guide me back

to a place of rest

where you gather

your wise men

and together

you all teach me

the righteous ways

to be more Christ-like

and a good instrument

of use

for God’s kingdom.

Once you found me a resting

and learning place,

not only I was able to rest

but you too!

Sorry for the many times

I made you go out running

looking for me

when you could just have waited for me.

Instead of waiting for me to get tired,

you looked for me,

you founded me,

ang gave me rest.

Thanks for the refreshment and your love for me.

I love you Jesus.

You Still Me

Cheryl Williams

Feather kisses

upon my cheek

trailing down like dew;

Tell me this is not a dream,

that I am here with you;

Passion's fury

knows no shame

and that fury I embrace;

We rise and fall

like the restless waves

as we love here in this place.

Oh my love, you still me

with but a whisper of my name;

You give me all with but a touch,

and I will never be the same.

Readers Feedback

Dear Storytime tapestry readers and writers,

I was truly impressed by ellie's most wonderful account of how she taught a blind person to dance. As a blind person for the past 19 years and who has had sight before, I have found that learning new skills as a blind person is difficult but rewarding. However, as Ellie had eloquently said, her eyes were opened, she obtained an entirely different insight into learning and the capabilities of blind people. As a result, she and all she had taught learned that blindness is not a deterrent to learning new skills, to leading a meaningful life and new tasks and challenges are enjoyed by the blind as well as the sighted. Very often, as a blind person, when learn a new skill, I am applauded as a hero or having bravery and courage, No, the courage, heroism and bravery should not be given to me but to the fact that people are willing to accept us and to afford us the opportunity to learn. I applaud Carol for giving me teh opportunity to share my poems and to share my feelings and thoughts. Thanks for publishing Ellie's article. I applaud Ellie. I would like to email with her. With all the joy in the world, Cynthia
