Dear Friends
I
like the music on this email. I got it as a response from someone on yesterday's
update. So, since I don't know how to put my own music on, I am recycling this
page for my update. The music is: "I Will Never Walk Alone." It is a comfort to know
that we never need to walk alone. This is an encouragement to ALL our friends
who are going through trying times, and I know there are MANY. May God bless you
all.
Wednesday: Hart wasn't so chipper
today, but still had the good spirit to joke with the nurses and to play a
game or two with me.... The occupational therapist was in today and
measured Hart for a wheelchair, explaining that he had to have one made
especially for him. A recycled one would not do, as he will spend most of
his time in his wheelchair and if it isn't right, he could get sores,
etc. Wheelchairs are expensive, but thank the Lord, He has
provided help in this regard.
Thursday: This
morning when I arrived at the hospital at 7:40, Hart had already
stripped his bed, washed, shaved and was ready for his breakfast. We
shared what the hospital provided, plus what I had brought. It is always
fun to have this little time together. Hart was in good spirits this
morning. The doctor didn't come in today, so we still don't know about the
stitches. Tomorrow the prosthesis specialist is supposed to come in at
11:00, with the physiotherapist and some nurses and hopefully the doctor.
They all want to learn about the prosthesis and how to care for the
"stump." They don't get too many amputees in this hospital. We will
also find out if Hart is a good candiate for a prosthesis. It is
quite likely that he is not, and he doesn't care. Thanks to
Ernie, the house is wheelchair ready.
I want to share this poem by Thomas
Kittrell, whose wife, Mary, is a nurse. Since I have seen the nurses work,
and appreciate their dedication and long hours, and since I have been
acting as Hart's nurse for the past 3 weeks (almost), I want to share this
great peom with you.
Because She Is a
Nurse Dedicated to my
wife, a nurse
Once she clocks
in for her shift at work She enters a whole new dimension Her mood
must be calm and cheerful Bringing no tension to her floor She must
do this, because she is a nurse!
She listens to the report of the nurses Who have had her patients
the shift before She goes over each chart carefully Alertly noting
all new doctors’ orders Dutifully she does this, because she is a
nurse!
Down the hall she cheerfully strides With Jesus in her heart and by
her side Each patient is her responsibility now To each she must
give of her time Eagerly she does this, because she is a nurse!
She speaks to the patient as she enters the room While looking for
telltale signs of health That may have worsened or improved And
listening carefully to all comments Intently she does this, because she
is a nurse!
She has already said a prayer in her heart For the healing of those
assigned to her care Believing that God is the great physician With
full control over all the healing process Prayerfully she does this,
because she is a nurse!
Back in the nurses’ station she is alert To any call a patient may
make Listening for unusual sounds that may come From any of her
patients’ rooms Attentively she does this, because she is a nurse!
Sensitive to the concerns of their family members She answers
questions discreetly and compassionately It is harder on the family
than the patient sometimes This she has learned through years of
experience Expertly she does this, because she is a nurse!
She sometimes calls the doctor late at night Hating to disturb his
much needed sleep Yet knowing that he, too, cares enough To be
alerted to his patients special needs Wisely she does this, because she
is a nurse!
She gives her report at the end of her shift Noting any special
concerns for those to follow Careful not to leave out any vital
information And silently says a prayer for her relief
nurses Lovingly she does this, because she is a nurse!
She clocks out to go home for sleep and rest She is tired and
needing to get off her feet But her heart is full, and she feels
pride In a job done to the best of her ability She serves others,
because she is a nurse!

Rocky: I can hardly wait to see Hart each day. I
just sleep on Hart's foot all afternoon until it is time to go home
again to see Evelyn. But the first "things" I see when I step in the
door are those pesky kitties. Sparky is always there to greet Helen, then
comes Scooter, followed by Keeper and Ezee. Casey is too lazy to get up
from wherever he is sleeping, and Casper is in his hidey hole. He knows
Helen is home, though, and comes out later to talk to her. He hasn't
been too well, but he is getting a bit better.
That's all I will say for today,
except PLEASE........
Thanks to all of you who have been voting daily
for (Helen's) website.
