I Don't Like Cats
by Clara Wersterfer

Do you believe I made that statement
in public?
Most people would not admit to that, but I truly don't like cats.
Let me tell you why. They can be so overbearing and aloof.
When they want something, they are very
demanding, the rest of the time, they allow you to live in the house if
you behave yourself.
Call them by name and you are lucky if they even look. Forget them
coming to you or allowing you to pick them up.
If you
allow them in your home, first thing you know they take possession of
the house,
the bed, your favorite chair. Make sure
all your pretty breakables are packed in containers where you can't see
them, but they are safe. The cats mistake your things for his toys,
batting them around.
There's
cat hair everywhere unless you brush the long haired ones daily. Don't
go thinking you can confine them to one area. That's not going to
happen. They
look at you as if to say, "Hey, this is my home. I will go where I
please, when I
please." And they will.
Another thing, you can't buy the bargain brand of cat food. Just try to
change from the regular expensive stuff, they look at you like you are
trying to feed them garbage or worse.
They know what they like, and you had
better know too.
If you treasure your furniture, you'll have them de clawed, which I
dislike, or cut the horrible sharp claws weekly. When you seek out one
of the little monsters, some how their radar lets them know it's time
for a manicure and the cat is nowhere to be found! You send hours
looking in the most unlikely places, like in the bathtub or up the
fireplace chimney and no cat. I fully believe they can make themselves
invisible!
You can call their name until you are hoarse, but will they come? No
indeed.
The best time to capture them
is meal time. Once you have him in your sight, grab both back feet in
one hand and the fronts in the other one. Next you have to wrap a towel
around them and pin them between
your knees while clipping the front ones. Unless you have help to hold
him, forget the back ones. Be prepared to find a hair ball or at least
throw-up as payment for what you put him through. Don't forget these
nasty little creatures do their business in the house. No amount of
throw rugs will keep the litter off your floors. They leave the
litter box, walk very carefully to the tile, then shake the litter off
their feet, giving you that Chesshire cat smile all the while. Heaven
forbid you let a cat in your bed. They want to cuddle you, lay on your
head, share your pillow, knead your back, walk on your body, lick your
face. They jump on and off the bed at least 50 times a night, landing on
you with all four feet. Wake you with purring in your ear.

About now you are probably thinking, "For someone who doesn't like
cats, this person sure knows a lot about them."
Yes, I do, because three cats share my home, and I did say I didn't like
cats. However, with all their faults, when one of them comes to sit on
my lap, nestles in the crook of my arm, touches my face gently with a
soft little paw, all is forgiven.
My heart melts and all the dislike runs out
He meets my eyes with that hypnotic stare and I am stricken with
amnesia. I forget I don't like cats. I can only remember how much I LOVE
them.

 ~Feeling Of Forever~

 Mary Dees

Why don't we set outside,

And watch the day pass?

We can whistle a tune,

Through the blades of grass.

Why don't we throw a blanket,

Down on the lawn?

While we realize the sun,

Is our gift from the dawn.

Will you relax with me,

In this cool evenings peace?

With my head in your hands,

And my face on your cheek.

With the world miles away,

We can forget who we are.

And be only responsible,

For the love in our hearts.

We can pray for the rain,

And let it bathe us together.

Even a storm won't outlast,

This feeling of forever.

Wholesome and united,

We will surely be prepared.

For any moment in love,

That we have a chance to share.

Exposed

(For Christopher)

 Mary Dees

Busy day, keep tumbling by.

Dissolve the blue, out of the sky.

Light beams flickering, fraudulent light,

Choking the real out of the night.

Trees slumping low, with hefty dew.

In drops trickling down, I think of you.

Lovingly touching me, in the dampened air.

Holding me gently, my shoulders bare.

Mysteriously I realize, the night can see.

It has memorized what you still are to me.

Bold and fearless, still and proud,

Always there, coming back somehow.

Raising our eyes, we see you again,

The night and I, are becoming friends.

Glowing there, while up so far,

You are the brilliant, found in the stars.

Setting down, on the cool grass I find,

I'm never alone, when your in my mind.

I know my discovery, permits you to live on.

Even beyond the day, when the sun is gone.

Here with me close, or too far away.

Time hasn't led, my heart to sway.

As long as there is dark in any night.

And just before the morning, peeks in the light.

I'll close my eyes, bow my head and pray,

That I can feel you here - safe in my day.

Apparition

Mary Dees

Transcendental light flickering.

I wake with no regret.

While the wall dancing shadows,

Drip like candle sweat.

The voices droned their chant,

Forcing me to comprehend.

I must not be alone;

I may not be alone again?

Was I supposed to see them,

I asked myself in vain?

Was I supposed to justify,

The reasons that they came?

Peering over my shoulder,

Not only the eyes of night.

Cold breath kissed my neck,

Then slowly drifted out of sight.

Slumber hushed my disbelief,

In one single moment fleeting.

No names here on my lips now,

Seems the spirits too are sleeping.
