Was Jesus Christ a visitor from another dimension altogether? And, if He was, what dimension are we talking
about? Now, there are at least two
approaches to this question. The first
approach is this one: The natural
universe is all we have. So, if you’re
going to explain Jesus Christ, or anything else, you’re going to have to
explain it in natural terms-regardless of how strange those terms might
be. The second approach is this
one: There is a supernatural world. Get over it!
You can talk about interdimensional physics until you’re blue in the
face, but at some point, you’re just going to have to admit that Jesus simply
won’t be locked into your scientific box!
I propose a third approach. It is
a false dichotomy to even attempt to divide the universe into the natural
versus the supernatural. The better
approach is to admit that the whole universe came from a supernatural
being. Some of His effects can be
understood, and some can not. And, some
effects are so beyond our understanding that they will never be understood at
all! Let me illustrate this approach a bit further. A primitive man is brought suddenly into the
twenty-first century. All of our gadgets
would certainly seem supernatural to him!
They would be quite “natural” if you like, from our point of view. I can even envision some culture on a far
away world or from a far off time in the future with technologies which would
seem truly supernatural to us here on earth and from our own time. Can we confine Jesus to merely very advanced
technology? I doubt it! An infinite God who became a primitive human
being by His standards, could never be confined to a “natural” box. However, God, as a human being, did leave
behind Him some intriguing clues that he may have used technologies and
knowledge vastly beyond us, but knowledge about which we may speculate. Some things that God does I can explain in
terms of nature, such as why the sun appears to rise and set, or why lightning
causes thunder. Explaining them,
however, does not dismiss God. Other
effects, I can not explain, but I can speculate about them. Still other effects, I believe, will never
fall into the realm of the explainable; and that is as it should be with a
being such as God! I intend to deal with
the second category-the peculiar events which may have an explanation well
beyond us, but still fall into the realm of human speculation. Now, let’s speculate about the peculiar by first
examining the obvious, and then extrapolating about the odd from that
point. First, the obvious; did Jesus Christ function in four dimensions,
as we do? Yes-though He certainly went
well beyond this! In other words, Jesus
walked around in three dimensions as we do.
He functioned in an existence that was familiar with the concepts of up,
down, left, right, and backwards, and forwards.
He also functioned in the fourth dimension as we do. He experienced, yesterday, today, and
tomorrow, just as we do. Of course, He
went well beyond mere tomorrow as we shall see!
Is there any evidence that Jesus functioned in a realm
beyond the fourth dimension of time? Yes
indeed! Consider Mark 10:34.) In this passage Jesus predicts the details of
His death so accurately, it is as if He were remembering a past event-as though
He had come from a future time and had already observed what was about to
happen. He knew he would be
betrayed. He knew the outcome of his
trial. He knew who would try Him. He knew He would be handed over to non-Jewish
authorities. He knew they would mock
Him. He knew they would spit on
Him. He knew He would be flogged. He even knew just how long He would be in the
tomb! One detail after another in
perfect sequence! What does this have to
do with inter-dimensional travel? I must
give credit to Chuck Missler for the following illustration: Suppose we were watching a parade go by. Now suppose that the parade route were coming
around a corner. We couldn’t see around
the corner, so we couldn’t see what was coming, but we could see what was
already passing by. That is what living
in the present time is like. We can see
what’s right here, but we can’t see what’s coming. Now, suppose that you were lifted in the
third dimension, and you rose high above the parade. Now, from a higher altitude, you would have
no trouble at all seeing around the corner.
You could easily see what was coming.
Jesus Christ exhibited this kind of perspective. It seems that He was lifted up, or out, if
you like, of our stream of time, and had no trouble seeing “around the corner”
or the future. Consider this rather strange passage about Jesus Christ,
written a thousand years in advance! Now
that’s really seeing around the corner and then some! Consider the following examples from Psalm
22. These verses were written some three
centuries before crucifixion was even invented!
(Psalm Is there any other evidence that inter-dimensional travel
is possible? Consider the rather curious
experience that Peter had. His experience
is recounted in Matthew 14:22-33.)
“Immediately, Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead
of Him to the other side, while He dismissed the crowd. After He had dismissed them, He went up into
the hills by Himself to pray. When evening
came, He was there alone, but the boat was already a considerable distance from
land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. During the fourth watch of the night Jesus
went out to them, walking on the lake.
When the disciples saw Him walking on the lake, they were
terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said,
and cried out in fear. But Jesus
immediately said to them: “Take courage!
It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “Tell me
to come to you on the water.” “Come,” He
said. Then Peter got down out of the
boat and walked on the water to Jesus.
But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and, beginning to sink, cried
out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately, Jesus
reached out His hand and caught him.
“You of little faith,” He said, “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind
died down. Then those who were in the
boat worshiped Him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”,” I do not think Peter sank because he was
afraid. I think that Peter began to sink
because he was temporarily removed from the peculiar effect which surrounded
Jesus. Then, when Jesus caught Peter
again, then, Peter was once again within the peculiar effect around Jesus. Also notice that when they worshiped Jesus,
He never once corrected them! He
permitted their worship! Job 9:8,
written two thousand years before this event does make the curious observation
that God walks on the waves of the sea!
Jesus was not upset with Peter for sinking, but rather, for
doubting! Peter sank for a good reason,
as I shall now attempt to explain. Walking on water has everything to do with buoyancy. This is a function of the mass of a given
object and the gravitational forces reacting on the water and on that
object. In order for Jesus to float on
water, at 1 G or 1 unit of earth gravity, Jesus would have to displace about
175 pounds of water. That’s about 22
gallons of water, give or take a bit.
Now, if Jesus is standing on His feet, then the amount of downward force
applied to the water is roughly 4 pounds per square inch, unless my physics is
totally misguided. In any case, that
force of 4 pounds per square inch would easily overcome any resistance by
water! So, by all the laws we
understand, under normal gravity, walking on a soft wet surface under these
conditions would be impossible! And,
yes, God does the impossible! Now,
remember, we’re speculating about inter-dimensional physics for a bit. Could Jesus manipulate the gravitational
constant to change the relationship between Himself and the water around
Him? Absolutely! Our equation presupposed 1 G or 1 unit of
earth gravity. Now, in this
inter-dimensional world, that’s quite a doubtful supposition! Here’s what I mean. 1 G is roughly defined as accelerating 32
feet per second faster than the second before.
So, in the first second, you travel at 32 feet during that second. Then, during the next second, you’re
traveling at 64 feet per second, and so on, and so on. Well, doesn’t this presuppose that seconds of
time are constant? You would think so,
wouldn’t you? But remember, we’re in an
inter-dimensional world where your suppositions are not necessarily so! If Jesus Christ could step up over time and
“see around the corner,” so to speak, then couldn’t He just as easily step
above time and not even bother with time altogether? Couldn’t He change the rate at which He
experiences the flow of time and manipulate the usual 1 G constant however it
might suit Him? Of course He could! Suppose He simply changed his temporal perspective
so that He was accelerating at an inch per second, per second, instead of the
usual 32 feet per second, per second. He
would weigh only a tiny fraction of what He would weigh in our normal
conditions. So, He would touch the
surface of the water so very lightly, that He wouldn’t even break through the
surface at all! So, by merely changing
the constant, G, Jesus could simply change His weight to suit His need at the
time. And, anyone, like Peter, caught in
this odd temporal effect would have his temporal perspective altered as
well. So, Peter, within the effect,
would weigh less, just as Jesus would.
So, both Jesus and Peter within the temporal affect would be able to walk
on water. And, Peter briefly stepping
outside the temporal affect would begin to sink. Then, Jesus could have touched Peter and at
once drawn Peter right back into the temporal anomaly, and once again, Peter
would be able to stand on water. Is that
How Jesus Christ did it? I really don’t
know. I am merely suggesting that this
whole idea of men walking on water isn’t as crazy or mythological as it might
sound, particularly if that man was actually a traveler from another
dimensional existence. Consider yet another set of peculiar anomalies in John
chapter 20. Peter and the others are
about to have even more peculiar experiences.
(John 20:6-8.) “Then Simon Peter,
who was behind him, arrived and went into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, as
well as the burial cloth that had been around Jesus’ head. The cloth was folded up by itself, separate
from the linen. Finally the other
disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed.” If Jesus had pretended to rise from death,
there would have been nothing special about the cloth that would have made the
other disciple “see and believe.” If
Jesus had unwrapped Himself, He would have thrown His burial cloths about
helter-skelter and left the tomb! I very
much doubt that He would have folded them neatly! It looks very much as though Jesus’ body
simply passed right through the wrapped cloths and left an empty cocoon
behind! What an odd sight that would
have been! Peter and John would have
seen a cloth in the exact shape of the body of Christ, but no body! Just a hollow, empty shell where a body had
once been! This peculiar effect probably
explains why John was so very willing to simply look and believe. Later passages, which we will examine, do
indicate that Jesus did have the power to pass right through things. Did Jesus pass right through the wrapped
burial shroud? Very likely! Consider John 20:19.
“On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were
together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood
among them and said, “Peace be with you!”,”
Notice that Jesus never said, “Behold, I stand at the door and
knock!” He simply was there! He had the power to simply pass right through
locked doors, tomb stones, burial shrouds, or whatever else! Consider John 20:26-28.
“A week later, His disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was
with them. Though the doors were locked,
Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then He said to Thomas, “Put your finger
here; see my hands. Reach out your hand
and put it into my side. Stop doubting
and believe.” Thomas said to Him, “My
Lord, and my God!”,” Once again, Jesus
did not correct Thomas and forbid Thomas from addressing Him as God! Consider this final passage from Luke 24:30-31. Jesus has risen from death, and is having a
meal with two men. “When He was at the
table with them, He took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and began to give it to
them. Then their eyes were opened, and
they recognized Him, and He disappeared from their sight.” Clearly, the ancient records tell us that Jesus had the
power to pass through solid objects, and appear and disappear at will. Of course, I would expect God to have these
abilities as a human being. But, since
we are discussing inter-dimensional travel, I am considering the possibility
that Jesus traveled inter-dimensionally.
Once again, I must give credit to Chuck Missler for the following
illustrations of what this inter-dimensional travel would be like. Suppose you’ve got a pencil. You draw a two dimensional square. You’ve drawn it on a flat piece of
paper. Suppose the square represents the
disciples inside the house. Your pencil
point represents Jesus. You want to move
the pencil from the outside of the square to the inside. But, you don’t want to pass through any point
on the square. You want to bypass the
square altogether and simply appear inside the square. Just how would you do that? Simple, really. Just lift your little pencil and go over the
square! Then, deposit your pencil inside
the square! Now, from the two
dimensional point of view, you would seem to suddenly appear inside the square
without ever passing through any of the points that make up the square. Now, suppose you’re inside the square. This represents Jesus having a meal and then
vanishing. The square represents the
solid wall of the room. You don’t want
to pass through the wall. So, you just
lift the pencil above the whole scene and just pass right over everything in a
higher dimension! See how easy? So, when Jesus wants to disappear or pass
through something in three dimensions, all he would have to do is to simply
lift Himself out of those three dimensions and simply pass over or around each
point in the three dimensions. Did Jesus
actually travel inter-dimensionally? I
really don’t know. The point is, that He
may have! Those of us who follow Jesus may well travel
inter-dimensionally right along with Him one day! Wouldn’t that be great? And, this whole article may cause those who
think the whole discussion about Jesus is nothing but myth, to rethink what
really is mythology and what may well be merely another way of perceiving
reality. What is reality anyway? Is it three dimensions? Is it four?
Is it five? It may be
infinity! If the God of infinity were to
ever bother to communicate with us tiny creatures, wouldn’t you expect Him to
do some rather strange things? We as
humans are arrogant enough to think that 4 dimensions or even 22 dimensions
explain everything! That is laughable to
a God who could easily travel in an infinite number of dimensions! I am suggesting that Jesus really did behave
in ways one would expect of an inter-dimensional being would. I am actually suggesting that Jesus really
behaved as if His very nature were God!
And, if Jesus Christ was and is inter-dimensional and capable of
existing in infinity, then Jesus is with you this very moment as you read this
article! In a two dimensional world, I
could hover a fraction of an inch above the plain and yet appear as if I didn’t
exist at all, from the two dimensional point of view. So, God in his infinite existence could
certainly appear not to exist at all, and yet be hovering right over you right
now! I can look down from a three
dimensional world and see two dimensions, though they couldn’t see me at
all. So, even though you can’t see God,
there is every reason to suppose that He really can see you, right now, where
you sit. You can’t escape your tiny four
dimensional reality. But, God, can
easily reach into your world. He has
done just that! Conclusion: God has created your reality. God has manipulated your reality. God has visited your reality. God can easily perceive your reality. God is beyond your reality! God wants you to travel to His reality one day! God will not force you to open your eyes, but He will one
day force you to bow your knees! Do what Peter did when he began to sink. Peter cried out, “Lord, save me!” Jesus did just that for Peter. And, the best part is that Jesus will do
exactly that for you as well! Cry out to
Jesus and say, “Lord, save me!” If you
mean it, then Jesus will do it! Pass this around and give others a chance to go on an
inter-dimensional adventure of a lifetime! Chris Hansen chrishansen54@sbcglobal.net Poetry Corner ~**~**~ Words Cheryl
