Dreams can foretell the future
For centuries, man has pondered the
question of whether dreams could really foretell the future, but there’s no
question in the mind of one New York City native. In 1995, Gina Clark was a theatre arts teacher working in
physical education at a local school – not really what she intended or wanted
to do.
This story is included in my book
“Glimpses 2” It Could Happen To You! It seems fitting that I address this
phenomenon since many people claim that dreams have predicted future events. In
Gina’s case, she had a dream one night that she was working at a different
school.
“The halls were bright with colored
tile on the walls, she said. “I walked up to a class of students who were lined
against one wall that led to a door. I greeted them and then opened the door,
which led to a dance studio.”
In her dream, Gina walked through the
studio toward a gymnasium.
“It had high ceilings with ropes
hanging and unusual drop lights.”
Gina then awoke and thought about her
dream for a minute or two. Then she got up and soon forgot about it. About
three months later, she learned of a dance position at another school and
called for an interview.
“After interviewing with the assistant
principal, we went upstairs to see the dance studio. As I was walking to the
elevator, I noticed the colored tile and bright walls, and thought, ‘this looks
familiar.” But I knew I’d never been in that building before.”
As soon as the assistant principal
opened the studio’s door, Gina remembered her dream. She immediately walked
through the studio and opened the other door, which led to the gymnasium. I was
exactly as she saw it in her dream!
“As soon as I saw the hanging ropes
and unusual drop lights, I remembered the dream and knew I was meant to take
the job. I ended up working at that school for nine year!”
Many other
people have reported similar dreams, including 24-year-old David Brown of Harefield, North-West London in the U.K. Beth Hale reported in the UK Daily Mail
that David woke up one morning about five years ago and found a mystery mobile
phone number was running through his mind. He couldn’t stop thinking about it,
so eventually decided to call the number.
Much
to his surprise, the number was that of 17-year-old Michelle Kitson, a student
who lived with her parents some 60 miles away. Michelle wondered how David got
her number, but decided to test message him anyway. After several more text
messages, a phone call and a letter, they finally met and fell in love.
Recently, the couple returned from their honeymoon and said they still can’t
believe how they met.
"I
went out for a quiet night with some mates and ended up having a few to drink,”
David said. “When I woke up this number just kept running through my
head."
His first
thought was that someone might have given him the number the night before, so
the first thing he text messaged was: “Did I meet you last night?” Michelle
responded by asking, “Who are you and where are you from?” Eventually, they met
in Cambridge.
"It
was love at first sight for me - I loved everything about her," Michael
said.
Michelle
said she found the initial encounter rather "spooky.”
"It
was really weird but I was absolutely hooked. My mum and dad kept saying, 'But
he could be an axe murderer,' but I knew there was something special about it.
I hadn't had a boyfriend before… I believe that things happen for a reason.
There is no way someone could have said my number in the pub, but he had that
number in his head.”
As for
David, he’s still ecstatic.
"She
really is the girl of my dreams," he said.
There are
many such stories, including that of the football fan in Liverpool who dreamed
about the winner of the FA Cup 3rd round and won ?25,000 as a
result. So dream away. You never know when your dream just might come true!
******************************
This
week’s dream symbols focus on historical figures:
a)
Pharaoh: Since this biblical figure is viewed as an inflexible and tough ruler,
dreaming of him symbolizes an unbending authority of a father figure.
b)
Tutankhamun: This figure denotes both the joys of youth as well as being unable
to fully mature as an adult (since he died so young).
c)
Julius Caesar: Of course, we all know that Caesar was assassinated by among
others, Brutus whom he cared for like a son. Thus, dreaming of Caesar may
suggest guilt over hostility that you carry for someone else.
d)
Nero: This ruthless persecutor likely possesses the same symbolism as the
Devil: your darker consciousness and baser urges.
e)
Cleopatra: This vixen of the Nile represents
sexuality, political prowess and great ambition. Since she died from a
self-inflicted serpent’s bite, seeing her in a dream signifies a moral lesson
about the perils of trying to balance love, power and ambition.
f)
Queen Elizabeth I: Known as the “Virgin Queen,” she represents in a dream both
a powerful female and a desire to renounce sexuality in favor of her role in
life.
g)
Queen Elizabeth II: This national matriarch represents the Great Mother. To
dream about socializing or having sexual relations with her denotes unrealistic
fantasies or ambitions.
h)
George Washington: This man has an image of honesty, braveness, protectiveness
and strength. Perhaps your dream is telling you to further cultivate these in
your own life.
i)
Napoleon: This French hero, liberator and tyrant is a symbol of an overbearing
father figure.
j)
Abraham Lincoln: With the characteristics of justice, wisdom and compassion,
dreaming of him may inspire you to develop these areas. As well, since he died
so swiftly and unexpectedly, he also symbolizes making the ultimate sacrifice.
k)
Adolf Hitler: Seeing this figure in your dream is a warning that not all people
are good, even though they may look just fine on the outside.
l)
Winston Churchill: This British leader in a dream symbolizes dogged persistence
and drive, which may be just what you need.
m)
John F. Kennedy: Many people view this dynamic figure as an honest politician
who was martyred for his ideals. Perhaps you are going too far out on a limb
for your beliefs.
n)
Princess Diana: This martyred heroine is remembered for her big heart and
generosity toward charity. She also evokes the idea of a maiden held captive in
a castle symbolizing the restrictions of social convention.
o)
Leonardo Da Vinci: To dream of this famous Renaissance master suggests you are
trying to understand the mystery of the creative process.
p)
Mozart: This man was also cut down at the height of his power. In a dream, he
signifies your effort to get ahead through dedication and intense turmoil.
q)
Beethoven: This artist forged ahead in music despite the fact that he was deaf
proving that one can overcome his or her shortcomings.
r)
Picasso: This man’s Cubist paintings often featured broken down body parts. To
dream of him may express a need to understand reality and life’s complexities.
s)
The Pope: This benign and saintly father figure represents a need to raise our
level of consciousness.
t)
Carl Jung: Seeing him in a dream may reassure you that you are on the correct
path to spiritual self-fulfillment.
u)
Sigmund Freud: Talking with this founder of psychoanalysis in a dream denotes things
you have kept from not only yourself, but others as well. Maybe, it’s time to
open up.
On a final
note, I was just falling asleep last night, when I had one of those vivid
dreams. I was on my front porch having a smoke, which I do quite often only this
time, it was night and so dark out that I could not see a thing. I struggled to
see something – anything in the absolute blackness and that’s when I realized I
was dreaming. Of course, it never gets that
dark, I thought.
