I'll Always Wonder

 Sharon Bryant

Some still check on me on this day, just to see how I'm doing.  My sister called early this morning just to wish me a Happy Mother's Day.

I had to work today, but then, I have to work every weekend.

As I watched families come into the park where I work, I saw mom's wearing corsages.  Some carrying flowers.  Some being taken to the restaurant for lunch.

I always notice the little boys.  Ones about five or six years old.

I've been watching for almost thirty years now and I guess I'll always do that.

It's the memories.

My daughter sent me a package with a cute shirt and a beautiful card.  She's a thousand miles away.

My son and daughter-in-law called me last night and told me not to make plans for making anything to eat after work.

So I didn't.

I came home from work to find my son and his wife (they are still newlyweds) sitting on my porch.  A new tablecloth adorned my picnic table.  A jar of sun tea was sitting on the rail of the porch.  On the table was a big white bowl, plates, silverware, crackers, and some melons.

I opened my door to the aroma of lasagna coming from my kitchen.  It smelled delicious.  I was hungry after working since this morning without anything but a scoop of ice cream to eat.

I also noticed that the tea jug matched the tablecloth.  In my heart, I knew what my son had done.  He knew his brother's favorite color was orange.  I asked, "Who picked out the new tablecloth?" and my son said, "Mom, you know I know Andy always loved the color orange, so we wanted that to be with you for today.

He never knew his brother.  He was born five years after his brother died.  But he sees the portrait that has hung on my wall all his life.  He knows he resembles Andy a lot.  Many through the years, thought it was him instead of Andy.  I have always had to say, "No, that's not him, he had a brother named Andy who died when he was five years old."

I have to say, with the accessories I was given today for my grill, and the delicious dinner my son and his wife made for me, the card and shirt from my daughter who is so far away, I had a real nice Mother's Day.

And yet, there is always that heart tug of Mother's Day long ago.  When another son was here with me.

I will always wonder what he would look like had he lived.  I will always think about what career he would have chosen.  I will always wonder if I would have grandchildren had God allowed him to stay on earth with me.

Those are the things I think about every Mother's Day.  I love the two who are here on earth with me, but my heart always aches for the one who is no longer here.

I'm a mom.

I love all my children.

Little MengToy

Bill Walker

missourisage@yahoo.com

Little MengToy, our first Peke. I haven't wrote much about this Princess, but she came to my mind.  I think people of the past runs though a persons mind from time to time, dogs, and cats, and other animals do the same.  That is the mind of a person that has/had love and feelings for another.

MengToy has been gone a long time, she died about this time of year, the year was 1948, real age unknown.  I pass by her grave every time I come home or leave the house.  You see she is resting out by the drive way, real spot has been lost to my memory.  For many years she had a small flower bed for cover.  Then things slowly got changed, she is out there some where. That is her grave, we pet lovers knows she is waiting for her people to come home also.

This Princess came to us by the way of a lady who for some reason, just gave her to us. The little girl, didn't like her new home at first. that was easy to understand.  The lady was a rich lady, Princess dined on the best, and had the best, now things was the pits.

Mother said, what can I feed this dog,, this had been some time since we had a dog? Well Princess got scrambled eggs, seem to well guess this is what I get, so eat it. Now this was the year of 1936, and she was a grown puppy at the time, like I said, have no real idea of her age.  She was a beauty, dad said she was a special, I don't know, still don't.  She was white and a brown spots, or is that brown with white spots?  All I know is she was a Princess.

Now the girl came from a member of the owners of the hotel dad was chef at. The stock Yards Hotel of Wichita, Kansas. This place was a hotel for people that came to sell, and buy stock, cattle that is. It was open week days, so dad really had one good job.  He was home on the week ends. as the hotel, and cafe was closed.

We lived in then west of Broadway street, 81 highway, a place was found that served better, closer to the hotel, and that was on the highway, Broadway Street, also the school was right cross the street, and maybe a block south of this house.

Now came one of the saddest things that can happen to a person, or a pet. She was dog napped. I was out in the yard with her, and she was not to be found,  was there one minute, gone the next.  I was but about 6 years old, I looked and looked, mother was out looking, but the dog was gone, no where to be found. There was a Standard gas station on the corner, I walked in and asked. Two men was playing checkers.  NO KID WE NEVER SEEN NO DOG..  Ad was placed in the paper, and no answers other then wild goose trips. This went on for days.  One day someone on the other side of town made it known that they was holding a dog of her make.  The ransom was 20 dollars. Sure enough it was MengToy.  She was dirty as a pig, been locked up in a coal bin, half starved to death, may have been with out water, good part of the time. Mother paid out the 20 dollars,, and we had her back.  Then the story leaked out. The two men playing checkers, was in the know all along.  The dog had been locked in a rest room all the time we was looking that day.  The old people that owned the place we lived, also knew, and was getting a laugh out of it. The Bible says forget and forgive.  A kid never forgets,, and as to the forgiving,, forget it. To this day, I hope those people are in a warm place. And these was said to be Christians.. the people that owned the house, went to some church every Sunday.

Mother and I loaded up and went to Springfield, Mo for a few days.  Mother was the wheel girl of the car, I was the road map keeper. MengToy was the rear gunner .  We had a Chev coupe. She laid up on the back deck looking out the side of the open window, or watching where we had been on any drive. One time in the city,, she slid out the open window,  walked over and set down by a laughing cop. Mother stopped and I got out, and retrieved her. After that mother took it easier on sharp turns.  And Princess took to hanging on a bit tighter  when that wild woman was driving.  Any ways we made this trip to Springfield.  Now grandma Sonner, had no use what so ever for a dog, but she allowed us to have the little girl in the house.  Grandma was a cat person,, cats was it as far her part, don't mess with my cats. Dog was lucky to get any water, or a bite to eat.   Now I can't answer this.  MengToy hated cats,  but she did not attack one of the many laying all over the place.  Her problem was she was having hunger pains.  She looked at a dish of food just for my cats.  GrandMa walked up and gave her a healthy kick, and said no dog is going to eat in my house, that is MY CAT'S FOOD.  I told mother of course.  We had planed on staying another day or two.  The next morning we was on the way home.  I never forgot the kick, also never did the forgiving thing. .She might have been grandma, I had no use for the old bat after that. Your better off kicking me, don't kick or miss treat one of my dogs. I don't forget, nor forgive.

Well  this is just some of the many stories of Little MengToy, my first Princess. I know she has met up with Tinker, and Poo, and the others, and is waiting for me to join them some day.  I think of her, and all the others some each day, and remember.

As an after thought.  Dog food, she wasn't a dog, she liked people food,, and seemed to do very well on it. I still wonder if our pets wouldn't be better off to tell the pet food people to get lost.  At least we didn't/don't have to worry about the posion that may be added to it, by the so called great pet food makers.

All your sons will be taught by the Lord,

and great will be your children's peace.

Isaiah 54:13

A Godly Mother, a Godly Home

In the heart of a true mother,

is the concern for the welfare of her children.

She leads and guides them in the righteous way,

and fills their lives with her love.

A mother in the home is the anchor of the home,

for her family.

Her love will never leave them nor forsake them,

and home will always be

wherever she is.

God bless the mothers of the world,

who love, nourish, and feed their children

with godly love.

Happy Mother's Day!!

 Dear Father,

I lift up this nation of mothers to You.

I pray for more godly mothers,

who not only demonstrate love to their children,

but who teach it, as well.

Father,

capture the hearts of the children of our nation,

of every nation.

May the Holy Spirit strike a hunger and desire

for You,

for Your ways,

in each and every one.

May the lights of the young

be kindled,

and glow with such brightness

that the sunlight wanes in comparison.

In Jesus' name,

Amen

Pray for our military troops, safety in all areas.

Pray for the Holy Spirit to penetrate the hardest of hearts,

the radical Muslims,

and the hearts of those who lead insurgents into senseless attacks.

Pray for demonic spirits in these people, to be bound.

Pray for God's mercy upon America.

Pray for the Church of the New River, to rise.

"Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,"
but does nothing about his physical needs,
what good is it?"

Readers Feedback

Bill, I think having faith means to have faith it has happened before you see the evidence of it. That is FAITH brother. Giving thanks that it has happened before you see it happen is pure unadulterated FAITH.

Just my opinion,
