 Mad Money

Bill Walker

missourisage@yahoo.com

I don't know just when mad money went out of style, and maybe I do know.  You know what mad money is don't you?  Well maybe you young kids don't, so I better tell you. Hate to keep you guessing and guessing wrong.

You see years ago when a young lady went out on a date, she had mad money.  This would amount to the great sum of a couple dimes, or at most a quarter.  Mad money.  Use  to be back years ago, there was a telephone booth about every where one looked.  The gas stations, the drug store, such places as that.  Girl could get mad about something, she hop out of car, and head for a phone booth. Call DADDY. Mad money.  Daddy come on the run to save daughter.  She would be steaming mad about something, she never going out with that fellow again.  Well in a few days, she cooled down, and again she would go out with him.  Normal girl thing you know, give a little time and she will cool down.  He isn't so bad after all.  Here she is out on another date, but she has mad money along.  Never ask the young lady if she could give you a dime, your short one dime.  That is Mad Money, and your out of money, well she had a dime to call DADDY.

Well I don't know if the to days girls had mad money, there is one thing she will have. Blasted cell phone,  those things is every where.  I wonder just how we got along before, every kid in the country has a blasted cell phone.  I had a girl to stop by the house to pick up some stuff, she a young kitten, she looked at the pile, and got on her cell phone. Brother setting out in the car.  He got the long distance call, and came to help her.  Blasted cell phone.  Years ago the girl would have flip flopped out to the car, and told him her problem, but today she calls on phone, saves wear and tear on flip flops.  Oh sorry, years ago flip flops hadn't taken America by storm.  I think flip flops comes with  a cell phone, not sure. I do know every flip flopping gal has one, cell phone that is.

I guess the girls of today still gets mad at boy friend, only now she calls DADDY on the cell phone.  My dog, Little Girl I think would like to have a cell phone,  that will be the next thing.  You know she does get mad and steams a bit about something.  Squirrel out there it ran up a tree, Daddy what am I to do?

 Love Story

Ina Townsend Young

They met on the internet, where both of their profiles declared intentions of never getting married again.  The chemistry was instantaneous and fiery.  Their similarities were almost frightening.  A year later, he asked her to move in.  She knew this would be the culmination of their relationship.  They needed to go no further.  She didn’t need “that piece of paper” as their commitment to each other was nearly overwhelming in its intensity.

The chemistry continued to rage and boil.  Their existence together was harmonious.  Disagreements were seldom and settled as quickly as possible.  To be sure they were still on the same page, she sometimes reminded him of how happy she was and told him, again, that she didn’t need “that piece of paper”.  He would sometimes state that he would probably want to marry her when they were much older, so he could be assured of taking care of her as they aged.  She would reply with her usual “I don’t need anyone to take care of me.  I can take care of myself quite well, thank you.”  Giving him a furtive furrow of the brow, she would then change the subject.

Their passion for each other continued to grow, rather than diminish, with time.  A year later, they planned a trip to Jamaica for the spring.  Twelve days before they were scheduled to leave, as they were lying in each other’s arms and drifting off to sleep, he informed her that he actually DID need “that piece of paper”.  He declared his undying love for her and the need to have her as his wife, not just his girlfriend.  Her eyes began darting around the darkened room, certain that there must be someone else there that he was talking to.  She looked at his face to be sure he wasn’t talking in his sleep.  He wasn’t.  He was looking right at her.  She was panic stricken.  She knew she didn’t want to live without him.  She knew he would treat her right.  She knew he was her soulmate.  With a lump in her throat, she said “yes”.  She was terrified.

He knew that if he was actually going to get her to go through with this, he better act fast.  He very wisely knew that if she had to deal with the stress of planning a wedding and the logistics of bringing family in from all over the country, there was a good chance she’d opt for continued cohabitation.  He proposed they get married before leaving for Jamaica.  They could turn it into a honeymoon.  She asked if they could keep it a secret until they were actually there; just avoid the whole family involvement issue entirely.  They could have a reception in the summer when family was planning on coming home anyhow.  They had eleven days to pull this off.

She lost all sense of concentration.  She went to work and didn’t hear much of what was going on around her.  She worked with psychiatrists and grabbed her favorite doc for a private session.  He asked her some open ended questions.  She answered.  She stared off into space.  He laughed at her and told her it was time to stop being the quintessential single, independent woman.  Go forth and marry.

They went for the marriage license.  She kept forgetting to breathe on the way there.  They bought rings.  She trembled.

The big day finally arrived.  They were both nervous wrecks.  They killed a bottle of champagne between the two of them before they left the house.  It didn’t do much for their nerves.  He said he felt an entire flock of seagulls in his chest.  She would have laughed had it not been for those elephants stampeding around in her bowels.

The mayor was waiting to marry them at City Hall.  It was his first ceremony.  Their witness was the City Manager.  A cop took their wedding pictures.  They were back home before the washing machine had stopped.  They left for Jamaica the next day. fileId:3096224744097978;size:inter;

A year later, she now laughs at how frightened she was.  Their existence together is nearly idyllic.  He’s still her best friend.  She’s still his.

A year later, the chemistry and passion still rage.

 June's Soft Melody
Cynthia Groopman

Oh, the soft sweet melody of June,
is as tender as the fragrant flower that lovingly blooms.
With musical notes that are so harmoniously high,
oh, sweet melody of June, you enchant us with your clear blue sky.
June's melody is that of a cheerful bride,
that exudes music full of joy and pride.
June's melody is sung in a graduation song,
that evokes thoughts and emotions that are powerful and strong.
June's melody is as sweet and delicious as a birthday cake,
with candles that are the twinkling stars,
as creation dazzles us with all of its beauty from afar.

June Happenings

By Cynthia Groopman

Oh, June is full of energy, enthusiasm and zest,

It is the month I really appreciate

The best.fragrant beautifully colored flowers are in full bloom,

Brides march down  the aisle to the sprightly joyful musical tune.

Students of all levels of educational levels graduate,

As all bask in victorious sunshine and merrily celebrate.

School vacations begin,

As hearts dance, thoughts swirl and dreams spin.

June was the month of my mom's birth,

Precious memories of eternal embrace me although she is no longer present on this earth.

Thus, June, regally may you reign,

For the queen of mirth you will always remain.

[BIBLE] THE CLOCK'S CHIME

The Clock's Chime:
By: Cynthia Groopman

Come with me and let us listen to the clock's elegant chime,
as it musically announces the changing time.
With a melodic glory,
each chime relates a musical tuneful story.
Oh, how different and varied are the sounds of each chime,
as it rings in the darkness of sorrow or triumph of golden sunshine.
A chant is heard to announce times of extreme joy and painful sorrow,
as it chimes and bids farewell to many yesterdays,
as it merrily greets every hopeful tomorrow.
For time is truly mystifying to me,
and the clock's chimes entertain me constantly.

I know what you mean Carol.  I was very close to my grandmother and lost her in '74.

May 27th was my mom's birthday, and May 28th was her and dad's anniversary.

Sometimes, you feel so alone when these days roll by and they are not here with us.

God Bless,
Sharon
