Arianna

by Pamela! Editor, SHINE!

There is a little girl in my life. She is bright, energetic, creative and beautiful. Her six year old self is really something else! When I look at her, I see the familial traits shared by her brothers, my sons.  She is their sister but she is not my daughter.

My marriage fell apart in a process probably not unlike others in this country where at least 50% of all marriages end in divorce. Now though, I am hard put to put a reason on it. I was not beaten, though I was beat down. I wasn't always unhappy, but I was sad. How nebulous the reasons in retrospect. The irony is that we get along so well now that although I have lost a husband, I have gained a good and supportive friend.

After much hard work, acceptance, tolerance, and of course love for our sons, we have been able to live up to a sacred promise of family.

Family now encompasses my former mother-in-law, my parents, my sons' dad’s siblings and my brother, my ex's wife, her kids, my second (and final) husband and a multitude of friends.  The newest link in this chain of family is little Arianna, my ex-husband's daughter.

This little girl, whose coming into the world shocked and then angered me and my children, is now a very important and priceless part of who we’ve become. She has helped me to redefine and champion, what family can be. I’m learning about “Power Puff Girls™”, remembering 1st grade and how to  simply “dance like nobody is watching” !

And does this child, whose name means holy in some languages, need to be my daughter to be a part of this family? I say no.

She just has to BE.

Best and Keep Shining,

Pamela

Controls
Bill Walker
missourisage@yahoo.com

There has been quite a lot said in the past about gun controls. The last
few days, lots more said one way or other since the nut went on a
rampage in
Virginia. Some are heated up to round up every gun in the
land.

Some lady put together quite a write up about nations that put on laws
about gun control. She has it figured up that in those nations 56
million people was killed by the state, due to the people being with out
guns. Yes the figures don't lie, it is true. With out arms, people
become slaves. 56 million people in the last 80 or so years, have
been killed by the nation leaders.

There are laws  passed to try to make people step to the tune of others.
Gun laws we can talk about forever. We can take guns from the people,
but do we? You can bet the gangster does not turn in gun one, in fact,
those will be having even more guns.

Now let me take you on another path of thought. Preachers will not
like this path for one minute. We have many problems today, a lot is
from drugs. Did or do you ever think about what got the drugs off to
such a hold on people?

Many years ago a law was made, we passed an amendment to the
constitution. No BOOZE. For a few years, booze was locked up, like
the devil it was. There was bunches of small time crooks that saw a
great way of making much money. These became the under world king
pins, made super rich by trucking in the booze. These people murdered
one another, plus others to get a foot hold on all the money to be
made. Then came the day the people voted to repeal the amendment with
another amendment. The preachers all ganged up and said
America
slipped back in the old sinful  ways of booze.

In those years of so called no booze, we made the big time gangsters.
These people saw the means of making big money fade away. So they looked
for a new way of making big bucks. Booze is gone, but look here,
people likes gambling. So lets get into that. People likes other
things, so lets give them what they like, we will make more big
bucks. Well, the gangsters just moved to where every thing goes.
We have now seen that grow from one place clean cross the country.
Who do you think came up with all the lottery deals? Who do you think
controls all the gambling places the states allow?

We now have another thing, and lets push that. People now are into
drugs, dope if you will from the gangsters.

We the gangsters control gambling, dope and prostitution. Thank
goodness for control laws. Now if we can only get the stupid law makers
to outlaw guns.

The Journey Of Life

Cynthia Groopman

Life is like an exciting journey and each of its stages are like stations,
And as we reach the end of life's line, we pray to enter our eternal destination.
Life is like a journey in so many interesting ways,
As we trudge slowly along a rocky highway, full of long nights and challenging days.
Life's journey takes us onto many unpaved dangerous roads,
And we often stumble and falling, sadly carrying our burdens and our heavy load.
As we travel on life's journey, we must take one step at a time,
As we are guided and encouraged by the soft moonlight and the warmth of the radiant golden sunshine.
The journey of life has many complicated changes and challenges and many unexpected sharp turns,
But with our head held high and walking tall and proud, we must forge on, as we continue to grow and learn.
Gently grasping our hand and showering us with deep paternal love,
Is our loving almighty Father, who watches over us and guides us from Heaven above.

Spinning
Cynthia Groopman

All is spinning,
the teams are losing and none of them are winning.
The weather changes so rapidly,
and events happen so mysteriously.
People talk so fast,
and peace does not last.
All is spinning, round and round,
and my head aches with thought that are deep and profound.
For when life spins so quickly like a rotating wheel,
many emotions I do feel.
For a moment I am sad,
then I am happy and glad.
For life is spinning before me,
and I sometimes bask in pensive anxiety.

 Must We
Cynthia Groopman

Must we anger or hate,
must we tarry and let evil rear its evil head before it is too late?
Must we always be in a state of anxiety,
waiting for terror to overtake us cruelly?
Must we speak in such loud tones
and must we always talk on the street using cell phones?
Must we forget our neighbor next door
or pass by the papers that are strewn on the floor?
These questions are complicated for me to answer as you can see,
and that is why I bask in the state of perpetual worry.
