Forgotten Yesterdays

Marilyn

nicholson.m@earthlink.net

She looks at the note on the table and wonders when she wrote it. All it has on it is the date and the day of the week. She used to always know things like this, but since she'd begun to not feel well and fall, there are blank spots in her mind. She has forgotten yesterdays; missing hours, days and minutes. It scares her.
She wonders what the Dr.'s tests will show and if he'll be able to help her. If not, she's not sure how she can stand it - this not being able to remember the simplest things.
She'd always had an excellent memory and can still remember things from the past, not the recent past, but the distant past. That she even has those, comforts her some and those she can still share with her neice and nephew, who call and come over and take her to her Dr.'s appointments and tests.
She has no Dr. appointment today that she can remember and no tests. She sits down at the table as even though it's still morning, she's tired. She picks up a deck of cards and sighing, deals out another solitaire game. She'll play for hours and not realize it, but there's really nothing else that she can think of that she's supposed to be doing anymore. Forgotten yesterdays hurt.

Dedicated to Aunt Leona, with love.

 Winning Moments

Marilyn Nicholson

The kitten Mark brought home in his pocket,
sticking its little head out.
Winning moments, things you never forget.

Dad pretending to dance as he rototilled the garden;
us all laughing like a bunch of fools.
Winning moments, things you never forget.

Dave smiling and handsome in his first tuxedo,
waiting to go to his first Prom.
Winning moments, things you never forget.

Mom cracking a lobster and the pieces flew through the restaurant,
hysterically laughing as a part landed in my coffee.
Winning moments, things you never forget.

Me, standing in the background,
holding tight to those winning moments.
Knowing inside that sometimes during the bad,
they were all that kept us from falling apart.

The Dollies

Bill Walker

missourisage@yahoo.com

People are always asking about the Dollies, and how did this come about. So I think maybe I should try to clear up a thing or two. I am sure some people wonders about these ladies, and I think all fit in the finer class of ladies. My dad always said treat any woman you ever meet as a Lady till it is proved that she isn't.  Well in all the time that has passed since the start of the Dollie list, I have only found one that I had to remove from the list. Today the list is at last count 30 and growing.

Now this list is made up of ladies from Maine to Florida, then all the way to California.  I think there is very few states there isn't at least one Dollie.  There is I know one in Canada, one in Germany

Now let me tell you about how this came about, the Dollie group.  I was setting here one day reading stories people wrote. I seen a real good one, I wrote the Lady, she became the first Dollie. She lived in Oklahoma, she told me in a note about a lady in Texas, Dollie number two.  From that it grew to the network of Dollies.  The Dollie Grape Vine, sure learn a lot from the Dollies. I have a problem, there is a Dollie with the know how to work it. We laugh, cry with one another over something.

One of the newer Dollies lives in the state of Maine, she is something else,  but then I think she is like all the others on the list. She has a big heart, and that makes a Dollie. Now her writings to me tells how big a heart she has.

In the winter time, she trots out to make sure her horses has the needs of life. It gets real cold up there in the main part of Maine you know.  She tells about her dog trotting out with her to see about the horses. The horses spent the night in the barn out of the cold winds. She has a heater out there so it isn't a ice box, and the horses also has a horse blanket. You don't see that out here in the snow covered fields of Nebraska. Horses, and cattle will be found out in the fields somewhere doing the best they can.  She also sees to it there is feed here and there for the wild life animals. She writes of the many different kinds of animals that come by for a free hand out, then move on, to return later. It must be a beautiful sight to see.  She is doing what God said do in his book of books, the Bible. Take care of MY Animals, I made each for you to have, and enjoy.   Yes I think the lady of the main part of Maine is a Dollie.

Each Dollie is a story,  from time to time I glean out something one writes to me about, and I have the makings of a story. I have one that lives in the state of Florida,  she has been worked into many stories. I think she is a case of never give up,  many if faced with her problems would have gave up and sat on the side lines and cried.  She had a family, and at mid life, picked her self up, said she wanted  a college education.  She walked out with two degrees with honors same day.  Now I don't know for sure, but I think that would be a tough act to do, but she did it. She is a Dollie.

There is others, that tell or write me about their life. All fit in the class of nice ladies.  All are animal lovers. There is a couple that is dog savers. Both I think all the others know about from my stories.  The lady in Missouri, saves Pekes, why wouldn't she be on the Dollie list, I love Pekes you know.  Then that Dollie in Texas with her army of Collies, you know the one that says Foster and Mine, HA, that is a laugh, all is in the Mine class after a day or two with her.

Yes this is some of the Dollies, I know I will get a note, how about poor little ME?  I got left out, SOB, SOB, and the tears will fall like rain drops.  I have a few pet names for some.  Like the two in Dallas, Witches.  Their always telling me I wrote it the wrong way.  Tink and Poo didn't have any trouble getting their stories by the one, but I sure did getting mine by her. WITCH.

I have only met 5 of the Dollies, make that 6.  The Oklahoma Dollie that started all this, the two Witches in Dallas, two Dollies in Missouri,  and I brought one home from Oklahoma.  Why that is Little Girl. She is a Dollie also you know.  She is all girl you know, her way or no way.

Doctors

Cynthia Groopman

Doctors we must see,

But visiting them causes anxiety for you and for me.

Many times they are abrupt and rude,

Their manners may be unpleasant or crude.

Although they are well schooled,

Some of us are treated as though we are children or fools.

To us, many doctors talk down,

Clading our faces and spirits in a doleful frown.

Emotionally we are not healed.

Although some of these sentiments may be true,

,,

There are doctors, who are kind and crises and illness

they will see us through we may feel,

 Changes In Routine
Cynthia Groopman

A sudden change in routine,
can cause thoughts that are not pleasant and serene.
Worry can loom on the horizon, invading my life's beautiful blue sky,
and it is difficult to cope, no matter how much I try.
I am a creature of habit, as you can see,
and I follow routine religiously.
When plans are changed or things do not go the way I wanted them to,
I feel dismayed, disappointed and blue.
For the best, I only hope,
and only wish that I have the strength, courage and faith to cope.
I look to God to show me the way,
and by so doing, my frownful feelings no longer stay.

Appreciating A Waffle
Cynthia Groopman

When awakened with a face full of frowns,
enchanted am I by an aromatic waffle so golden brown.
Regally sitting on my plate,
smiling at me, the waffle causes me to celebrate.
With a pat of butter or syrup, it is a treat,
like a good friend, it's a pleasure to enjoy and meet.
So, every morning, when I now awake,
out of the freezer a waffle I joyfully take.
For waffles brighten my day,
They add zest to breakfast in every way.

How heart breaking that must have been for Maya to lose her sweet angel child that way.  She truly must have been a special angel to have touched your heart the way she did.
Keep up the wonderful writing my friend.  wishing you every joy, Joe
