All About Dreams – A Martha Jette Column

June 12, 2007

Martha Jette, friend and author will now be taking over the dreams column formerly presented by Parthena Black of Bella Online.  Many of you know Martha and will agree that her columns are always fresh and exciting.  Martha explains the unexplainable with style and grace.

Our desires and frustrations surface in our dreams

Over the past week or so, I have had several dreams that I can recall. In the first one, I was at a gathering of women and they were talking about how much they disliked one of my friends. I noticed that she suddenly took off, so I went after her, as I was very disturbed by what the others had been saying. I found myself running up a flight of stairs as fast as I could (something I could never do in real life because I have asthma). At this point, I realized I was dreaming and woke up.

Running in itself, expresses impatience and boy have I had a lot of that lately! With a number of projects currently on the table, I am more than anxious to see them come to fruition. Of course, going upstairs means progression, but the issue of being able to do something I cannot do in everyday life adds a paranormal aspect to the dream. In this case, racing up the stairs denotes my desire to possibly progress faster than is really possible in reality.

My second dream seems to be in parallel with the first one. I found myself waiting in line and every time I thought I was getting closer to the counter, it seemed that the line just got longer and longer and longer, which was extremely frustrating. I couldn’t find anything in my dream books on this, but it seems pretty clear that waiting for those projects to come to fruition is more than frustrating for me.

Now, my third dream had absolutely nothing to do with this. I found myself in the bedroom of one of my children (who are now adults) and I was throwing out a bunch of their stuffed animals. Toys in general, including stuffed animals, represent our childhood when life was a whole lot simpler and more fun. Thus they represent our desire to get rid of the pressures that come with adulthood. However, since I was throwing out the stuffed animals, it seems that I am getting rid of my last vestiges of childhood and along with them, my desire to return to a simpler time. Rather, I have learned to face up to and handle the difficulties of life.

This week, we take a look at information from Parker’s Complete Book of Dreams by Julia and Derek Parker. According to this book, ambition in a dream is offered in a symbolic manner that reflects our particular aspirations. Perhaps the dream is prompting you to be more ambitious or, on the other hand, warning you to hold back some, as your desires might simply be unrealistic. It is important to take other elements into account when attempting to interpret the dream, so you know which one applies to you

1)      Stars and Sky: If you dream of viewing the starry sky at night, it suggests you are reaching for your own star. Dreaming of just one star indicates a desire to capture the attention of one particular person in your life.

2)      Mapping the Stars: This suggests that you have a number of goals and perhaps you should narrow the field a little.

3)      Mars: To dream of the red planet indicates that you need to fight for your rights.

4)      Venus: Dreaming of this planet means you need to tend to your emotional side.

5)      Mercury: The planet of communication suggests a need to open up to those around you.
