ALBERT

Sharon Bryant

I finally got to meet Albert. He's young, and his name fits him perfectly.

You see, Albert survived a vicious attack recently. His siblings were killed and Albert was the next on the list to die.

He was named Albert because of the hair on his head. When you look at him, he's got wild hairs growing on both sides of his head. I was asked yesterday, "Doesn't he remind you of Albert Einstein? That's why we named him Albert."

Albert lives on our property. Daily he gets to go for a ride in comfort.

When I met him yesterday, I reached out to say howdy and his mouth opened. I knew he wasn't going to bite me.

He was just hungry. Matter of fact, Albert is constantly hungry.

Albert is the only tiny bird who survived the snake attack at our house this week. My daughter-in-law who works for a veterinarian has been taking care of him. Daily he's fed several times. He is surviving on Gerber mixed grain cereal.

And he loves it!

Every morning he is taken to work with my daughter-in-law. Every evening he returns back home.

The vet that my daughter-in-law works for checks him out to make sure he's ok. So far, all is good.

We joke that when he gets older he will think my daughter-in-law is his mother. He only knows the touch of human hands and the love of someone who loves all creatures.

One day he will be strong enough to spread his wings and live as he should. Yet I won't be surprised if he decides to stay in trees on the property so he can visit the one who tended to him and allowed him to live.

From: This I Believe # 6
Bill Walker
missourisage@yahoo.com

This I believe, last time I looked Mrs. Smith, and others made pies. The pies have a bottom crust, a top crust and a lot of filler in between. A pie as a rule has all three. Now old Bill makes a apple pie, with no top crust, but there still is a crust when the thing is done. Some people scream what is this and turn away? Well that just makes more
for others to have a bit more. I believe there are three parts to the pie.

Now with that thought in mind, there are three types of people that make
up this world; the upper crust, the bottom crust and the filler. The filler is the hard working, pay the dues, the taxes, send the sons and daughters off to fight the battles of wars. Now we know the bottom crust does a lot of this also. The upper crust, knows the crooks and turns to stand back and let the filler and bottom crust get taken to the
cleaners on all counts.

I notice the last few years due to the ways and means of the upper crust, the filler is getting less and less, while the bottom crust seems to be taking up more space of the pie. That is, the filler is becoming more like the bottom crust; poorer is the word I am looking for. Much of the filler which includes, for sure, the bottom crust live on a fixed income. They are not like the upper crust getting a big bone thrown to them in way of 20 million dollars for being top dog of some company ever so often.

I wonder how long is it going to take for the upper crust to understand that it take a bottom crust with a lot of filler to make the pie good, and worth eating?

This I Believe. A pie that is all crust, just isn't going to make it on the market.

This I Believe.

A Summer Shower

Cynthia Groopman

When I looked out my window about an hour ago,

Basking were we in sunshine's radiant golden glow.

The sky was blue and very clear,

,birds were singing melodies so sweet and ear.

suddenly, thunder I did hear,

My heart began to beat with fright and fear.

Torrents of rain began to gush all around,

As the gusty wind began to grunt in a frightful sound.

For we were experiencing a sudden summer shower,

Replete with sound fuery and immense power.

Summer showers are surprises, in every way,

Spoiling a tranquil weather day.

Anger
Cynthia Groopman

Like a blazing fire, raging out of control,
Anger rears its ugly head as it torments our weary soul.
It can be as fierce as a mighty lion, suddenly let loose from its cage,
Evoking hostility and violence and acts in a roaring rage.
Tossing everything chaotically about.
It can be as mean and evil as the rampaging tide,
Causing brutal destruction in places far and wide.
Thus, my urgent plea to you, oh Lord, my God is to immediately
put out the cruel fires of anger plaguing us everywhere,
I urge you to hear my cry as I solemnly speak to you
in each and every one of my prayers.

Before The Golden Door Of Peace I Stand
Cynthia Groopman

Before the golden door of peace I pensively stand,
Praying that peace and tranquility will reign throughout each and every
land.

Before the golden door of peace I solemnly stand and seriously
contemplate,
And earnestly hope that my plea will not be heard too late.

Before the golden door of peace, I regally stand proud and tall,
Pleasantly dreaming of a sere world, where there is brotherhood, equality
and justice for all.

Before the golden door of peace, I stand, filled with great expectation,
Eagerly wondering if my fondest dreams will become a realization.

For, when the golden door of peace will be opened wide,
There will be extreme joy, spiritual gladness and eternal love inside.
Treaties of mutual respect and harmony among all nations will be finally
made, and all mankind will feel secure and no longer be afraid.
For then, the hallowed bell of freedom will sprightly ring,
And in one voice, all will rejoice and sing.
For God will bless all mankind with the precious gift of liberty,
As we all join hands, triumphantly basking in the golden sunshine glow of
human dignity.

What Can I Say
Cynthia Groopman

Upon the stage, I did stand,
With the audience at my command.
All of their eyes were looking at me,
As my heart was beating rapidly.
All of the words that I had planned to say,
Had suddenly vanished and gone on their merry way.
A smile turned into a sullen frown,
As disappointment and frustration caused me to feel sad and down.
I had practiced this speech so many times,
But now my voice would only halter and wine.
Oh, what can I say to make the day go well,
So that I may feel a heart full of mirth having joy to relate and to tell.
Then, I began to smile,
As I decided to laugh awhile.
Then all of the words suddenly began to gush out,
From my mind's fountain spout.

Readers Feedback

Nothing like your pants full of chiggers. Especially when you have to read a chapter in front of the class.

Is it true about the snakes' heads, because it is worthwhile including in trivia lists - we don't have poisonous snakes in Malta... there is a legend that when Saint Paul shook the serpent off his arm, the venom of all snakes here was rendered harmless.....Tannia
