Fixer Upper
by Clara Wersterfer

My granddaughter said she would be ready to go as soon as she fixed her hair, made me start thinking about the word fix. A little bitty three letter word. Got out the old Funk and Wagnalls and looked it up. That little ole word has 24 definitions and is allotted seven linear inches of space. It can be a verb or noun.

Think about this!

"Fix" an all purpose word for whatever the occasion can be used for almost anything.
When you hear that word you think something is broken and must be fixed.
Depends on how you use it.
Here are some examples:

Fix a meal to cook
Fix your hair Comb and brush it
Fix a flat tire Repair the hole
Fix a hem Sew the skirt hem
Fix your nails Get a manicure
Get the dog fixed Spay or neuter
Fix the flowers Make an arrangement
Get teeth fixed Go to the dentist
Fix the coffee, fix the tea, fix the baby a bottle. Fix a drink. Fix a
horse race. Fix the bed (Make it up)
I'm fixing to go out, but have to fix my face I want a man to meet a
female friend so I fix them up.
Paint and fix up the house.
Living on a fixed income.
A fixed smile on the face.

I cannot think of any other word that can be used so many ways.

Can you?
There are so many useless words that could be replaced with fix. The
list is endless. We could probably remove a hundred pages of the
dictionary by substituting fix for some words. That would fix it up!
Well, gotta go fix dinner.

Have to get my fix of Lost tonight, it's
the season finale.  Bet they'll leave
everyone in a fix!

This I Believe # 7
Bill Walker
missourisage@yahoo.com

This I believe. There is no perfect form of government on this earth, we can come maybe close, but it still is not perfect. Best I know, there have been three types of government. We have had the king and queen rule. We have seen the good, and also bad with
that form of government. We have had the Communists form of government, a great idea, but it too falls by the wayside after a time. We have the democratic government, it too don't make the grade many times.

I also believe that you can not force any type of government onto a people if they don't care for it. People have to be ready for any change in whatever form of government, or it is a no go. Anytime you have to have a large police force to make a change, you do not have a government that will be a long lasting. This I believe.

I also believe one nation should never get mixed up in another nation’s internal problems. It only leads to troubles. This has been proven all through history. No people of any nation like to see troops from another nation standing guard in their country; trying to enforce a change of thinking and type of government. If the vast numbers of people are not willing and ready to make a change, it will not happen. If you have a nation where half the people step to one drummer, and the other half step to some other drummer, you have nothing but troubles. A change in government only comes about when the vast
numbers of people are ready to make a change.

Why don't you read the history book on what made the United States? The people were sick and tired of the King of England telling them what to do. Sure there was a faction that liked the King, but those were small compared to the numbers that fought for freedom. Some of these people found a ship and sailed for dear old England somewhere along the way, or moved up north to Canada.

You cannot force a change in government with a gun that is not a lasting government. This I Believe.

Summer is Here

Cynthia Groopman

Summer is here,

Let us loudly applaud and joyfully cheer.

Lush grass so soft and green,

carpets are created so exquisite and serene.

Gardens crowned with the splendor of fragrance hues,

creates a joy to be hold cherished by me and by you.

children running all about,

Placing in an enthusiastic shout.

Early morning birds awaken us

singing songs  of gladness,

Delighting us with true happiness.

Days are long and carefree,

Ushering fun, friendship and festivity.

Thus summer you are a beloved welcome guest

in our routines,

With smiles we admire your picturesque majestic themes.

Summer's Smile

Cynthia Groopman

Summer's smile is exquisitely radiant,

As majestically glorious ass the blooming flowers

so preciously fragrant.

Adorned with a charm so full of delight,

Summer's smile embraces us in her warm soft sunlight.

Summer's smile is indeed crowned with splendor,

Gently caressing us in a manner so lovingly tender.

Oh, summer smile, you bring zest and energy

to all who dwell on earth,

filling our cups of life with gladness and mirth.

Smug, We Must Not Be
Cynthia Groopman

Smug we must not be,
Forever we must bask in the golden sunshine of humility.
Superior or better than another none of us are,
For all of us can touch the rainbow or wish upon a twinkling star.
For in God's eyes we are all the same,
And acting in a way of a show off is a sinful shame.

 Complicated Mysteries Of Father Time
Cynthia Groopman

Oh Father Time, you are clad in such complicated mystery,
Like a spider weaving a web of unfolding events
that are spun into an unexpected historical tapestry.
For you father time is as infinite as the
glistening golden grains of sand
that elegantly adorn and dance on the beach's seashore.
And Father time is as fierce as a
powerful army of soldiers marching
as he incessantly begins to tap upon life's enormous door.
Neither do we know or expect what he will bring.
For father Time is unpredictable
distorting and tormenting everything
Racing quickly are the little hands
that adorn the clock's puzzled face.
Creating changes in the cycle of life that flash
before us in a confusing pace.
Minutes dash into years as Father time hurriedly marches on,
And with a blink of an eye, another
calendar year is over and gone.
Father Time will never be patient and wait for us.
And we cannot escape his tight grip,
so we must not complain or fuss.
For Father Time will always remain a mazeful mystery for me,
Always being beyond my realm of comprehension,
as you can plainly see.
