Charlie and the 'Coon
by Clara Wersterfer

An account of true events that happened
Sept 15th, 2006. I have tried to impress on my Fox Terrier Charlie, that he is a little dog and we did not name him Rambo for a reason. Charles had a two round fight with a raccoon. Both back legs were bitten, one ear bloody and torn a bit, tummy scratched, but he is one lucky dog to be alive. Here is how it happened.

About
7:30 each night, I take the kids out to romp a little before dark. I keep two leashes tied on the porch rail and snap them on to their collars after we get on the porch. The raccoons usually come to eat about 10pm each night. Never had them at 7:30 before. When I opened the door, both dogs ran out, surprising the coon on the end of the porch, eating the cats food. Charlie, the Exterminator, got there before I did and grabbed Mr Coon. In one corner we had Rocky Raccoon, maybe 6 months old and weighing in at about 20 lbs.

In the other corner we have Charles, the Exterminator, at 8 months and 6lbs.  We have Miss Onyx as referee, barking and running at the coon, distracting Rocky Raccoon while staying out of his reach. Young Charles has not learned yet how to feint and parry. He rushed Rocky Raccoon, who jumped off the porch, which is about 18 inches high. Charlie the Exterminator leaps off after him, landing on top of the slower moving Rocky Raccoon. Clara, a barefooted bystander, also jumps off the porch, but the two contenders are already running, with the coon in hot pursuit of Charlie. Onyx, still nearby is screaming at the top of her lungs for Charlie to get away. Coon grabs Charlie and throws him down on his back. Amid yelling and near hysteria, Clara arrives, slapping the coon with her bare hands and kicking with bare feet to rescue her baby. Coon runs toward the porch seeking refuge from the crazy woman or to get aid from his family who are hiding under the porch. Onyx is in hot pursuit toward  the porch.

Right about now, Clara goes ballistic and nearly wets her pants. She is holding her
bloody and battered Charlie, not knowing the severity of his wounds, and is about
to loose her Onyx, the chihuahua, to a pack of beasts. Praise the Lord, Jane has
heard the cries of anguish and rushes out. She grabs Charlie and runs in the house, giving Clara a chance to get her hands on Onyx. Once in the safety of her home, Clara nearly has a nervous breakdown until she sees that Charlie is not dying.

That 180 mil of Inderal Clara takes daily to control her adrenal output quit right there. She was pumping more adrenalin than the meds could handle. So much so, she did not sleep until 4 am. Of coarse it is hard to sleep while sitting up in bed, holding Charlie in your arms.

A visit to the vet at 8 am confirmed there were no permanent injuries. One thing is for sure. It was good the coon was a young one and not the mother who probably would have ripped Charlie's little stomach open when he was lying there on his back. Thank heavens. Even though Charlie the Exterminator is kept on a short leash, he still challenges any and all creatures that dare step foot in his yard !

Rainbow Bridge Gang. Scoobydoo and Fluff Puff
Note: forwarded message attached.
This was written for a little girl of 6 who lost her kitty, Fluff Puff. It was requested by a dear friend Miss Jene Lind. Sky is her granddaughter. Lex was a little dog she had, and Scooby was another
kitty.

Fluff Puff
Tinker and Poo
tinkerpoo2000@yahoo.com

Hello Sky, this is Tink and Poo, we are the  guys who operate the
Rainbow Bridge gang. We kind of set up the welcome for new comers to this wonderful place, we have a lot of wonderful Dollie Angels to help us.

When a much loved pet reaches here, we run the computer and put the families together. Your Lexington and Scoobydoo has been here for some time, been playing together, along with others.

The other day when your Fluff Puff came up the lane, and was taken in by one of the Angels, we went to work, and found Lexington and Scooby down by the stream watching the fish playing.

This is the life you know. We all had hurts and sickness back there with you, but now we lay around, play a bit, and just have a good time all together. We have no more hurts, and sick days.

About the only sad thing is just waiting for you to come along, and all be together once again. But we know you're a young one, and it will be some time before you are called home to Heaven.

Here Lex, Scoobe, and Fluff will not forget you, and hope you do not forget them. Remember this . Do not stand by our grave, and cry, we are not there but in Heaven waiting for you to come running up the lane. We will run as fast as out little feet can fly to meet you, and once again show our undying love.  Oh you can visit our grave, and put a flower on it from time to time. We hated to leave you, but we are happy here. We will be watching for you, and you can recall us in memories from time to time.

We each have our own special Angel to care for us till you get here. They care for us, play with us and see to our needs; a ball to roll about, a blanket, a bed and food. What more could a much loved pet need while waiting?

Some day you too will come home, we will welcome you. Till then Lex, Scooby, and Fluff will be together. Your family of pets waiting and watching.

I Am A Soldier
Cynthia

I am a soldier, and upon the battlefield of life, I valiantly fight,
For with God, loyally standing at my side, obstacles and sorrow,
I shall overcome with power and might.
Struggling in the evil face of adversity,
I proclaim victory proudly.
As I march on, with hope in my heart, and courage in every step,
I know that I shall succeed,
Because God has crowned my spirit with tenacity and determination,
And I shall never concede.
For as I bravely fight, God's Divine light will always be my guide,
In Him, I shall always confide.
For a gallant soldier, I shall always be,
As God instills confidence, and encouragement as He whispers His comforting words, gently.

Please Sing To Me
Cynthia Groopman

Oh, please sing to me,
A lovely precious melody.
With a melodious voice, as charming as a hummingbird,
Please sing to me  each and every loving word.
Oh, please sing to me,
A little song that will make me happy.
A nursery rhyme,
Will make my sky of nostalgia sparkle and shine.
Oh, please sing to me, a lullaby,
And as I hear the lovely tones of my mother's voice, I begin to sigh.
Please sing to me, a Psalm that is comforting and full of God's eternal love,
That conveys a message of eternal hope, gladness and joy, from Heaven above.
Please sing to me,
As my heart dances to a joyful tune and my soul rejoices triumphantly.

I Glowed
Cynthia Groopman

I glowed with such a special brightness,
As I was embraced by God's blessed loving caress.
I glowed with powerful intensity,
As my soul danced to the tune of sweet victory.
I glowed, exuding a ray of sunshine that was magnificently bright,
As God kindled into my soul, the eternal torch of Divine light.
I glowed with an angelic face, full of smiles so radiant,
As I was adorned with an aura so elegant.
For I glowed with an exquisite charm, like that of a regal queen,
As I was dwelling in a majestic palace that was so beautifully serene.
For I glowed with twinkling stars sprightly dancing in my sparkling eyes,
As I savored each and every moment of a truly spectacular day,
laden with splendor and surprises.

Moving On,

Cynthia Groopman

When life's mud, we are stuck,

Being downhearted and out of luck.

Turn to the Lord up above,

For consolation, guidance and love.

When days seem to be full of anxiety,

As hearts weep with sorrow and insecurity.

We must move on,

Pray for the sadness to disappear and despair to be gone.

.

When skies lack rainbows of hope,

Focus on a sunshine moment of glow to successfully cope.

So dear friend, for us to regain life's luster, enthusiasm and charm,

With God's help, we must forge ahead and move on.

Readers Feedback

In regards to Rainbow Bridge Gang. Buddy by Bill Walker; The fact that a law enforcement officer, a person supposedly trained to
protect everything and uphold the law, scares me to death if he could do
something like this. I would say a complete mental evaluation and survey
should be done.

I know one thing, if that happened to one of my babies it would be the
most expensive liability things our city would ever be involved in
unless the, so called, cop was dismissed. Mental freak anyway!
