Old age comes creeping toward me like a cat stalking a bird. Suddenly it
springs and I am caught in its clutches unable to do anything but wonder how it
happened.
Last month I was a child scampering and frolicking, as free as a fawn in
the spring; safe, or so I though, in my family’s arms.
In mid pivot, I changed to a teenager cavorting with the thought of
love; wondering what my future held, running toward it like a speeding bullet,
yearning for the years to pass. Who
would be my husband? How many children would I call mine? What career to choose
to gratify my creative needs? A
week ago, I met my love, had my children, worked, and did all the things a
young mother does; doing it all, at least trying to. Still, time in the future
to do the things on hold; forward looking for the decade of being in my forties
when the children were grown and on their own. A
day ago, forty sped by like an f-17 stealth fighter. I grabbed for it, but was
left spinning in a whirlwind, wondering how I missed my hold. All the things
planned to do after forty were caught up in day-to-day living and were left
undone. A
minute ago, I had parents and grandparents. Now they are gone and I have become
THEM. I look in the mirror and see a sagging body, graying and thinning hair,
and spotted hands. Surely this is not I. These old hands that I examine each
day cannot be mine.
I do not want to be one of the old, I lament. I feel the need to scream,
Lord, WHY? What happened to my life? It was here. I blinked and it hid from me. Will I awake
from this dream Lord, and find I have fallen asleep as I lusted after the
future. I
know that is not so. I am caught like a fly in a spider web. I thrust, I twist,
and I turn. The more I labor, the more entangled I become.
The hoary arms of time, the enemy catches all of us.
We determine to enjoy every moment left to us, but in our subconscious a
clock is ticking louder, LOUDER, LOUDER. Charlotte Hilliard ~**~**~ Poor Little Dog Bill Walker I feel sorry for this poor little dog. He sure didn't
know what he is getting into. The little guy is going to leave his mama, and
get a new home. He got sold into a life of slavery to some people.
One almost has to laugh at the bargain price that was paid for it. It is to become the preacher’s dog, poor fellow; that is
the dog. He is going to get the preaching, and “no you’re a dog, so there
is no afterlife for you. All the preaching isn't going to get you to
Heaven.” Well better get back to the bargain basement price.
A man that lives on the street back of preacher has some pups; Anyways here preach finds out about the pups, he said
something to the man about how he might like a new pup to preach too. The
man said price was 250 bucks. Preach told him there was no way he would pay 250
dollars for any dog, a dog isn't worth it. Well the man at last told him 50
dollars; must be down to the runt of the family. There was another add on
to the price. Preach seems to have quite a wood pile, he has a burner for
wood to help heat the house in winter. This man has the same kind of
deal, so he asked if he could have some of the wood. Now I have seen
this long row of wood, it is enough to keep a fire going for a long long
time. A deal was made. I know when preach went somewhere for a couple or three
days. Tink and Poo had Prince to put up with. I think he asked if they
got preached at? I notice both of them kind of stayed clear of him.
Maybe he tried his luck at being a preacher. Well poor little dog, I know he is going to get saved,
dunked in the tank, and spend his life as a preacher’s dog. Tinker and Poo; The Boys Write http://www.iuniverse.com/bookstore/book_detail.asp?&isbn=0-595-35741-5 ~**~**~ Poetry Corner ~**~**~ Night Travels Tannia
Ortis-Lopes I dream of places I have never seen. I dream of places from old times. I walk through streets already gone. In the land of the dreams, I discover old things. I dream of houses already gone. I dream of people dead long ago. And in my dreams I continue to explore a world of mysterious ways and darkness. But within this darkness there is a light brightening the path for me to walk. This shining light goes ahead of me and takes me places unknown to me. Are you laying a route for me to walk, Lord? Are you showing me a world already gone? As I walk in my dreams in the land of the unknown, I discover new worlds or are they truly old and forgotten? I don’t know the answers to my dreamy walks, but I enjoy the scenery and want to see more! Guide me through the lines of times, Lord. Guide me so I walk secure. Strengthen me as I go to the land you are leading me in my dreams. Copyrighted – tanniaortizlopes@yahoo.com Tannia E.
