THE RESPONSIBILITY OF FREEDOM

??????????? Freedom.

??????????? The word fairly reverberated around my father?s old, beat-up, brown Buick as I drove south on the interstate. ?It was August, so the windows were rolled down (partly because I loved the feeling of freedom that it gave, but mostly because the air conditioning didn?t work) and the radio was cranked up:

??????????? Get your motor runnin?

??????????? Head out on the highway

??????????? Lookin? for adventure

??????????? And whatever comes our way

??????????? Oh yeah.? Steppenwolf understood freedom.? And now, for the first time in my life, so did I.? Home, high school and constraint were in my rear-view mirror as I drove toward college and the wondrous autonomy that it promised.? From this moment forward I could do what I wanted to do.? If I wanted pie and Dr Pepper for breakfast, that?s what I?d have.? If I wanted to stay up all night eating pizza and listening to music, that?s what I?d do.? If I wanted to call girls on the phone after 9 p.m. ? something I was never allowed to do at home ? I?d make the call.

??????????? I like smoke and lightning

??????????? Heavy metal thunder

??????????? Racin? with the wind

??????????? And the feeling that I?m under

??????????? I was about halfway to college when I noticed something else in my rear-view mirror: flashing red lights.? I glanced at my speedometer.? Heck, I didn?t know the Buick could even go 90.? I gulped and steered the car to the right side of the freeway and pulled to a stop, fearful that I might be celebrating my first day of real freedom by being arrested.

??????????? The highway patrolman paused and looked in the back seat of the car, which was loaded with boxes and stereo equipment.? Neither one of us said a word as I handed over my driver?s license and the Buick?s registration (yeah, I knew the drill ? it wasn?t the first time I had seen red lights in my mirror).? He walked back to his patrol car, leaving me to agonize about the awful possibilities.? What would my parents say?? What would my college dean say?? What would all those girls say if I called them after 9 p.m. ? from jail?

??????????? The officer came back and leaned over to look me directly in the eye.

??????????? ?You heading to school?? he asked.

??????????? ?Yes, sir.? I said.

??????????? ?First time away from home??

??????????? Oh man ? did it show?

??????????? ?Yes, sir,? I said.

??????????? He paused, then said with a smile.? ?I remember my first time away from home,? he said. ?I remember the feeling . . . the freedom.? It was great!?

??????????? He got it!? He understood ? I was sure of it!? From the look in his eye I could see that he knew what it felt like to feel the need to ?go make it happen,? to ?take the world in a love embrace,? to ?fire all of your guns at once and explode into space!?? He was, like me, a ?true nature?s child,? and we were both ?born to be wild!?

??????????? Then he handed me the ticket.

??????????? ?Consider this your first college lesson,? he said.? ?Freedom is great, but freedom is also a responsibility.? Use it wisely.?

??????????? I wish I could say that I accepted his advice and used my freedom wisely that first semester at college.? My college transcript would suggest otherwise.? But through the years I?ve learned, as I hope we all have, that ?freedom isn?t free.? You?ve gotta pay the price, you?ve gotta sacrifice for your liberty.?

??????????? And no, Steppenwolf didn?t sing that.? But maybe they should have.

This I Believe: Animals
Bill Walker
missourisage@yahoo.com

Us so called humans have a Bible to read. Some of us?believe that there is a God. What about the animals?

Well, I believe animals also believe that there is a God. Now this is going to be hard?to explain to nonbelievers of?the Bible, and to nonbelievers that there is a place in Heaven for animals.

It is said in the Bible God made all things. When he made Adam and Eve, he told them they were to do a few things. One was to care for the animals, as man was said or thought to be the smarter of the two. That is man was smarter than the animals, not smarter than Eve. We all know who is smartest in that case, right Girls??

Now the animals have, since that time looked on mankind to take care of them for their needs. Kind of like we are told to do in case of God, we should look to God for our needs.

Now I know my dogs look to me for their special needs, am I a god to them, and their thinking? I guess from what I hear of from my cat lover friends; that may also be the case in cats thinking.

I know if my dog has a problem, I get the look. The look of I got a problem boss, what can we do about it? A dog looks to the so called master or mistress for help in any problem, just like we look to God when we have a big problem.

Now maybe an animal knows well what God said way back there; that mankind
was to care for them. Maybe the animals believe up to the time that they go home to Heaven, mankind is the foster care giver. This I can Believe. Animals are not as dumb as we think.

I Believe this, animals do think, and reason things out. We are the ones to care for them, therefore we are the god in their minds. They serve in many ways. Always ready to do as they are told.

?I have been reading about what some people have done to both cats and dogs of late. I for
one am ready to do some mean things to the people who have done things to these poor little creatures. These people like to kill, and make the death of the poor animal a living hell. God says in his Book of Books the Bible. "vengeance is mine " Isn?t that right?

Well by the same token, let me tell you something. My dogs think I am their god. Therefore treat my dogs mean and nasty and vengeance is mine. If that great football player had done what he and his family did to one of my dogs, they would be finding out what hell is like real soon. That is not a threat but it is a promise. This not only is the case of the so called great player of football, but for the ones who killed Chevy, and Max, and other dogs and cats. Those people also would be in great hurt.

Now I ask you to please take note. I spelled God with a capital letter in all cases where I am speaking of our Father which is in Heaven. The ones with small letters; that is not the true God.

Closer Than a Brother

?

?Joyce C. Lock

?

Why do some?act like?they are better than me, when God created us all?

Their land is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made. Isaiah 2:8

Some?use their knowledge to try and lord over me.? Is that right?

There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness. Proverbs 30:12

When I try to share something new I've learned?in the Bible, why do?some attack?

These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. Jude 1:19

How should I answer them?

Take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.? For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. Matthew 10:19-20

But, when I try to explain, they say, "Well, that's YOUR opinion."

He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul. Proverbs 15:32

Shouldn't I also consider what they are saying?

Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. 1 John 3:21

So, if my heart does not condemn me, why do others think it is their job to?

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts. Proverbs 21:2

Then, why don't?they?follow?the Lord's?example instead of lecturing me with?scripture?

They are prophets of the deceit of their own heart. Jeremiah 23:26b

Oh, ok.? So, what about when I do fall?

They which are spiritual, are to restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering themselves, lest they also be tempted. Galatians 6:1

Then, what's the deal with these?disapproving looks?

They measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. 2 Corinthians 10:12b

So, how, then,?does one get wisdom?

If any lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. James 1:5

Then, why don't they just do that?

They being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. Romans 10:3

What should I do, in such a case?

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. 1 Peter 5:6

Well, ok.? But,?I am sure that some talk about me, behind my back.? What's up with that?

All that hate?thee whisper together against thee: against?thee do they devise?thy hurt. Psalm 41:7

Should I be concerned?

With what judgment?they judge,?they shall be judged. Matthew 7:2a

I didn't want judgment, only?for?them to do what is right.

Give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Romans 12:19b

Why can't we all just 'get a long'?

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 1 John 4:8

?

?

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron. 1 Tim. 4:1-2? In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. 1 John 3:10

?

But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.? And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also.? Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.? And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. Luke 6:27-31

A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly:

and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
