Roach’s Story – A Family Legacy of Abuse
You are about the third person, the other two being college professors,
who has made the comment that I should write a novel. It could be about how not
to raise children and how some people are better off never having children in
the first place...If you want, you can add it to the newsletter. Maybe somebody
else will recognize that they are not alone and things will finally make sense
to them. Abusers have a funny way of twisting things around to make it seem
like the abusees are the ones who are wrong. God, I wish I lived closer to you.
Even though I can't drink anymore because of type 2 diabetes, we'd have to go
out and have a few over this one...LOL...
All my life my mother told me that I was crazy and would eventually end up
in a rubber room somewhere before it was over. I think a lot of her problems
stemmed from the fact that she and her twin sister were born 5 years after her
mother lost her first baby and they were constantly told that they were
mistakes and had not been wanted. My grandmother was 22 years old
when she lost her first baby to SIDS when he was 5 days old and I know she
never got over it. My grandfather was 40 something years older than her and he
had grown children from another marriage when they married. I don't think he
intended to have more kids at his age and he was not the typical doting father
he should have been. I don't think she had any idea of what she was getting
herself into because when she married him, her family thought he had money.
They soon found out differently when he got sick and lost his store. My
mother and aunt used to deliver papers before they went to school when they
were 6 years old. At age 7 my mother was hit by a car while on her paper route
and they thought she was going to die. There were a few Christmases where
they went to bed hungry and woke up to nothing under the tree because there was
no money for extras after they bought my grandfather's medicines. I can
see now how this warped the hell out of her. Now you have some idea of what I
dealt with growing up and still fight unconsciously on a daily basis... I
know that we are related somewhere down the line! Stories like your
family's help others to realize that they were not the only ones who missed out
on the "Brady Bunch" ideal and had to deal with the reality of abuse
and neglect. Hugs from the SC loony bin, Lynne Stevenson pugMOM37@aol.com ~**~**~ My Name is Linda Ann Henry Linda Ann Henry My name is Linda Ann Henry. I
just read Carol Roach story and I would like to share. The year was 2001.
I had nerve damage. My father and I went to see my
therapeutic. Inside that room was a secret kept from me for 51
years. My father looked me in the eyes and told me I was adopted. He said I was
not his and he never wanted a child. I looked at the man I knew since
birth, and said "but daddy everyone said I look like you". He gave me
another shock, everyone knew about my adoption; my aunts and uncles,
my cousin's, all the people in my uptown So when my father told me, I
lost my identity. He kept from me who my birth parents were. I was lost in
adoption. I went on the search of my life to find my family. I had to
trick Penn and told them I wanted my mother's birth paper, under the name which
was on my real birth paper "Conaway". In 2003 I found mother and my
five brothers and sisters. Only my sister Christina talks to me and we help
each other. In 2005, I found my birth father. He wanted a DNA. I was his child
and as much as he could he loved me. The same year my father
who raised me died yet even at the end he would not tell me he loved me. I write on all my poems
"Do you remember me", because when I was growing up, people seem to
forget I was around. I would like to talk to Carol. At
lease she had children who loved her and a loving husband. In sickness or in
health anywhere I go I go alone.
Can You Keep A Secret Linda Ann Henry Can you keep a secret There are things I must not
ask, How can I help it They are part of my unknown
past Are you part of me Am I part of you, I loved you but I wonder Who's name do I come under I am a secret I look beyond my sight, I wish I just knew who I am I wish it with all my might Can you hold my hand Can you help me stand, Why is there much to know Why did you keep it so Can you keep a secret I am grown, I must stay calm I will stay within my soul, I
will let no one know I will no longer cry How can I forever more ask why Linda Ann Henry Do you remember me The people's poet "Life can only be
understood backwoods, but it must be lived
forwards" ~**~**~ Poetry Corner ~**~**~ Heavenly
Thoughts David Fox As I look up in the sky, I can't help thinking of the Man Up High, How does His mind work? How does it tick? Does He really help the sick? Does He hear everyone say grace? How can He be every place? These questions I wonder and many others, But don't worry my sisters and brothers, Let the answers come what may, Each and every time you pray. More poems to come in the near future.
Thanks for considering these. Your friend, David Fox ~**~**~ God
