awareness throughout the world. Special Treat – Kathy Myrah I am delighted to introduce you to Kathy Myrah, our newest
writer who becomes writer number 432 for Storytime Tapestry. Please email her and welcome her to the
fold. Double-Edged
Blade by Kathleen
Myrah I would
slide the double-edged blade into the back pocket of my Levi jeans. It gave me
a sense of security, a sense of release. All I had to do was slip my hand back
there, caress it in my palm, and tighten up my fist. Inhaling, exhaling, a rush
going through my body. An escape from where I was. For many years, I did
that. Eventually a
blade found its way out of the pocket and onto my wrists. A hot summer evening,
I was alone in my childhood home, staring at myself in the bathroom mirror.
Screaming, I slammed my fist against the glass, shattering it to pieces. With a
shard, I started to slit my wrists. A familiar
voice yelled out. In shame, I panicked. No one was
to witness this weakness of mine. I heard the screen door to the
house open and slam, with my dear friend, Angela, calling my name. She said she
just stopped by to say hi. I couldn't hide my swollen eyes, or the remnants of
a tear streaked face. I remember her asking me what was wrong. As always, I
said nothing. Over the
years, I'd revealed nothing to anyone about my depression
or of the times of being on the brink of suicide. My friend,
Ang, never knew all that went on in that heart of mine. Most people never did.
Only until later in my life did anyone ever know. My mother, dear to my
heart, Tom my husband, and a long string of counselors and psychiatrists. I owe
each of them my eternal gratitude. But by the
grace of God I go. Kathy Myrah |
