The Value Of A Bible
Bill Walker
missourisage@yahoo.com

Most people can say they have a Bible somewhere in the house. Or have seen one sometime in their life. These are people who live in a free country. We forget there are people who have never owned or seen one. Maybe we forget how many people would like to have one.

Today I was told of a man who cried when a Bible was placed in his hands. You see, he knew about the Bible, but all he had was a couple of the books of the Bible; Matthew, and John. He knew each of the words in those two books. But he had never owned a complete Bible.

He made a trip to a place, hoping he could trade his two books for a couple of other books of the Bible. Instead here he finds a line of people.  He, being late, was last in a long line. The other people were in hope of a Bible. A group of ladies had made a trip to this small nation In Africa. These ladies were handing out Bibles. He, this man, was last in line, hoping now for a Bible. When he got the last one, he held it in his hands, and broke down crying. At last he had a complete Bible. He had walked miles to this place   to make a trade of the two books he knew by heart, for a couple he had only heard of. Instead, now he has a complete Bible, a treasury of God's word, the complete Bible. It
was a dream come true for him.

We in this
land of America, can go many places, and see a Bible. Do we know the value of it? Ask the man who has none, or maybe just a few pages of one.  Where is your Bible? I bet I know where that man's Bible is. It has to be in one of two places, in his hands, or on the kitchen table where he can read it. It sure isn't on the bottom shelf of a table, or under a pile of other things. It is his prize; he will guard it with his life. It is the living word of God.

What is the value of a Bible? Ask a man who had but two books of the Bible; a man who walked miles to make a trade, walked the many miles home holding on to his very own Bible. A man with tears of joy streaming from his eyes, giving thanks to God, and for the ladies who came with a box of Bibles.

 Ultraviolet thoughts
Rainbow arc spanning heaven
Infrared sorrows

Undercurrent tow
Steel-grey waters drown my dreams
Sucked in their vortex

Uphill all the way
The path that leads to nowhere
I will not give up

Velvet scent of blooms
Twirling in the autumn breeze
Set my spirit free

What a fine feeling
I'm having a bad hair day
But you do not mind

When all the leaves fall
Trunks stand barren in the cold
Why don't clouds clothe them?

When I am with you
Forever's not just a word
But the here and now.

When life seems unfair
Let love bathe you in its warmth
Icebergs can't stand heat.

When my time is through
Remember how I loved you
Think of all we shared

When our paths converge
Our streams of consciousness bond
And calm the waters

Whispers in the night
Between two souls that are
One for ever more.

White horses foaming
The surface is flecked with froth
But the depths are calm.

Windmills of my mind
Whirling round without respite
Elusive zephyr

Wonders of nature:

Would a Leopard change his spots?
Or Tiger, his stripes?

You entered my life
Suffused it with inner glow
And taught me to love

you may not admit
because it mars your image,
that your heart is pure

Your words are awesome
Emotive undercurrent
Refracting your love
