Today’s Stories

~**~**~

Today Leona Ebling presents two different stories about how life unfolds, in the end we can view every situation as either negative or positive can we not?

THE ANNOUNCEMENT

(negative or positive)

Leona Ebling

The pages compiled without thought for the reader it seemed

Typos were many clearly revealed as they screamed

At the one whose mind tried to make a honest evaluation of her work

Why would she be so careless, her duty to grammar to shirk

Seven times this manuscript was typed and sent to be okayed

The report came back the same too many ‘hard returns’ on each page

In frustration she repeated her task and with tears

The replies were the same, the ones that she feared

Making up her mind this was her last

The time of her patience ended as she completed her task

There will be a galley for me to proof read

The corrections I will then make, with her self she did plead

The galley received, no corrections allowed to be without cost

The typos stared boldly from the pages to boast

Her finances were nil, nothing she could now do

Embarrassed she agreed to bring it into public view

This aspiring author, the years of her dreams

Was now facing the public and she felt she could scream

Not with joy at her success but with pain in her heart and mind

If only she could have typed this galley one more time

 with negative or positive outlook:

 THE ANNOUNCEMENT

 Leona Ebling

The typo's glared from among its pages

embarrassment showed as she reaped mistakes earned wages

It could be her end or it could be her start

of reaching the goals that were instilled in her heart

Yes with every fiber of being she hoped to be true

to the dreams of her lifetime of what she wished to do

It was conceived and it grew with many a tear

along with some laughter and many a fear

Laying almost aborted time after time

she gave it life writing line after line

then in labor for hours upon hours she brought it to birth

awaiting the approval of others for its value and worth

but with its mistakes of grammar and typo's galore

it was published and ready for all the book stores

Her lifelong dream to be accepted, and to accept herself

The book with its mistakes hopefully sharing a wealth

though not the shining example of what it could be

it was not aborted, but birthed and waiting for others to see

what can be accomplished as time flies by so fast

It is alive, accomplished, the book, "Search For Life Through The Past."

The Last Afternoon

Fred Hose

Did you go away, son?

No I’m still here Mama. I’m still holding you.

Yes I can feel that now.

How do you feel Mama? What can I bring you?

Nothing son.

Must I phone the others Mama?

No son. I just want to be here with you. Just you and me

Mama when we were young, did we make you happy?

Always. Always.

When were you the happiest?

When you all came home from school.

Were we then nice to you Mama?

No no. You all just stomped in and shouted “I’m hungry”.

Did you like that?

I was so happy son. So happy.

When were you the happiest?

When you were overseas and you sent me those letters,

Yes, wherever I went I wrote to you.

I kept them all. In my cupboard in a box.

May I read them Mama.

Not now. Stay here with me. You’ll see that they’re all stained.

Stained? How come Mama?

I read them so many times and each time I cried.

Oh I’m so sorry.

No no son. They were tears of happiness.

I laughed softly and nodded.

Then you came home and bought a house.

I remember that Mama. In Hilda Street.

And you brought me there. You said Mama this is where you will always stay.

Yes and you did. And we were happy here.

My son....my son...hold me tight.

I will Mama.

You brought me joy son. Like no one else.

Yes Mama.

Kiss me son....

I placed her head back on her pillow and I crossed her arms on her chest..

I went to put on my track suit. I’d never run 20 km before but I did that day.

When I came home I phoned the family and the doctor.

I made dinner for everyone. Spaghetti Bolognaise. It’s very easy.

We discussed various matters till late that night. When the subject of the will arose, I walked outside and sat on the garden bench where my mother had often sat.

I looked at the sky and spoke very quietly. I knew that she could now hear even the softest whisper.

“Goodnight Mama. Thank you for every thing. Don’t go away. I need to know you’re there.”

Readers Feedback

Value of words!  It's a huge gift for all of us to see Storytime Tapestry
back in our mailboxes!           Louise

Marilyn’s Nicholson’s “About Me” says it all, and so eloquently! When will parents realize that their innocent children internalize everything, believing that they are somehow the cause of all the strife? It’s never about the children, but what torture for a child to have to live through until coming to the realization that it’s not their fault. And how many never come to that realization? All power to you, Marilyn, and God bless.
