THE FLYING BIRD
Dr. Harmander Singh

He goes for evening walk with his elder sister, if he sees that she ponders about something too much, he cannot stop saying what he feels. She is pondering about something.
"You are thinking about your childhood, are not you," he says.
"Yaw, it was a carefree time, is not it?" she replies.
"You know, when I go to see granny she always says that there are many things like our childhood," he says.
"I do not understand it, which many things does she talks about?" she asks him.
"I explain you as she explains to me, all right," he says.
"All right, let us sit on the benches over there in the corner," he says.
"Ok, let us sit," she says.
They approach towards the benches in the park and he says,
"Why does bird fly?"
" It enjoys as it does everything by flying and sitting like that bird flying as if going home in the evening after its days work, is not it?" she says pointing to a bird.
"What does it enjoy then?" he asks.
"It enjoys nature," she replies.
"What in nature do it enjoy while flying?" he asks.
"It enjoys the fruits, flowers, trees, rivers and everything that attracts it" she replies.
"What really attracts it?" he asks.
"Well, when it is hungry food attracts it, when it is thirsty water attracts and when it feels alone all types of beauties attract it," she replies.
"What do you think about the humans?" he asks.
"We cannot fly otherwise we would have enjoyed more than birds," she says with a sigh.
"Why cannot we fly like birds?" he asks.
"It flies with its wings. We cannot do it, can we it?" she asks.
"You know in our dreams we fly sometimes. The granny says that the discovery of the aeroplanes is because of birds. Is not it?" he asks.
"Yaw, we fly with our imagination and dreams," she says.
"She says that we as humans are doing great things in the space science and technology, are not we doing greater than the birds?" he asks.
"We are but, we are having less birds than we had before flying in the sky?" she says in a pensive mood.
"I also cannot see as many different birds as you would have seen the granny says that the sky used to be full of bird's singing songs? Is it true" he asks.
"Yaw, we cannot see so many birds, nowadays, singing those good songs?" she says.
"Yaw, when we look at the sky it seems empty, it is just embarrassing, is not it?" he says.
"That is why I go to see them in the zoo, what the granny says is right we cannot separate our self from the birds," she says.
"Will we have flying birds in the sky when we get old," he says.
"Please do not say such harsh words, we will have birds flying, will you do me this favor stop saying such words?" she says.
She cries. He remains silent for a while then he also cries. They hug each other as if hugging the bird so that it may live long.  Next day, she tells that in her deep sleep, she saw herself flying with birds. She feels fresh whenever she looks at the sky full of birds, in the morning and evening.
Daily Moral Insight for a Peaceful Night
Is not it a beautiful sight to see a bird flying?
Is not it greatly joyous to enjoy nature as a bird enjoys?
Is not it great tranquility to enjoy present forgetting about past and future?
Is not it a blissful idea to have a flight of thoughts?
Is not it creative to sit alone and letting thoughts enjoy nature?

Web of Dance

Cheryl Williams

Lonely leaf

suspended in the air,

motionless,

but for the breeze

that stirs

the lovely spider web

to which it clings;

It dances

with each stirring,

catching raindrops

until it breaks free,

falling gently

to the earth,

riding on a silken thread.

 Beauty of The Night

Cheryl Williams

The sun sets

and  trees

loom like giants

against the darkening sky.

Slivers of moonlight

peek through branches

and night critters

hum evening tunes

that will fade

with  sunrise.

A huge orb

spins her web,

her net of doom

cast over any

welcome intruder,

and her masterpiece,

nature's Picasso,

glows in the moonlight,

beckoning to all

who pass by.

Romantic Scavenge

Marilyn Nicholson

They'd been together so long,
without ever getting married, but
knowing that she was ready to leave,
planned a romantic scavenge.

That Saturday, he took her to their special place
armed with a picnic basket,
and picked her a bouquet of daisies
while giving her sweet kisses.

Looking inside the picnic basket,
she found no food,
but a hand-written reservation
to their favorite restaurant.

When they arrived, they were taken
to a table in the back,
with seating for two
and a candle in the middle.

Continuing the romantic scavenge,
for he didn't want to lose his love
he got down on one knee
and took from his pocket a ring.

A beautiful diamond and sapphire ring,
and placing it on her finger,
with eyes filled with love
he asked her to marry him.

She stared at him in shock.
She looked at the ring on her finger.
He started to sweat.
She softly said, "Yes.", and fainted!
