  TOKYO ROSE

Sharon Bryant

If I recall right, Tokyo Rose was the voice during WWII that talked on the radio.

For years I had more or less forgotten about Tokyo Rose.......until tonight.

On my porch there is a wishing well made of wood.  I painted it and three years ago put a pretty red artificial flower arrangement in the center.  It always made me smile when I looked outside the window on a chilly winter day and could see my "flowers" still in bloom.

A few months back, we adopted Dixie, our border collie puppy.  We figured she'd follow Bob, our corgi and Ladybug our other border collie and learn from them.

She's not doing too well.   LOL

Tonight my husband let all three dogs outside while we snuck a piece of lemon pie.  Of course the minute the furry little children come back in the house, they KNOW.  They know we've had something and didn't share with them.  They even go to the trash container and sniff to see what crumbs we've left on a plate.

Dixie loves toys.  Every single time she goes outside, she grabs a toy to take with her.  I'm teaching her when she comes back inside to grab a toy.  So, she knows when she comes inside now, bring me a toy.

I guess tonight she either has all her toys under the deck part of the house or it was too dark to find some.  My husband let all three in and here came Dixie, running right to me, with a long stem rose in her mouth.  She stood there and looked at me and my husband about died laughing saying, "Hey, she's Tokyo Rose and she brought her mama a flower!"

I started laughing.   Dixie thought the rose was a GOOD thing so she pranced around the kitchen with this rose in her mouth.  By this time my husband was bent over laughing so hard, I thought he was going to choke.

Bob and Ladybug didn't know WHAT was going on so they started barking.  Tokyo Rose ran through the house with the rose still in her mouth, Bob and Ladybug right behind her.  And my poor husband, he was laughing so hard, he tried to catch up with the three dogs, but he didn't make it.  He sort of slumped into his recliner, head first and he roared.

Tokyo Rose MUST learn NOT to bring me my own flowers.  I'll see in the morning if I have anymore roses left on that artificial arrangement!

Sharon

P.S.

Never a dull moment in this house!

The Valiant

Conrad S. Cardinal

Does a soldier wonder if there's meaning

to his fight,

when he's tired and hungry on a cold,

onely night?

He's told that he's defending the things

that he holds dear.

Yet in this strange and foreign land none

of those things seem near.

He's sworn to fight oppression and keep

these people free.

When he's cursed and scorned the meaning

of this fight must be hard to see.

Perhaps he finds the meaning, though

his home is oh so far,

when he gazes up to heaven and see's

the very same star.

He must then realize that except for an

accident of birth,

instead of being in a foreign land, this

could be his earth.

He could very well be fighting in a field

where he used to play,

instead of in another's play ground on this

dreary day.

I guess that's when the feeling of futility

must leave.

His chest with strength and pride must

begin to heave.

That's when he realizes that this deed,

though ugly, he must do.

In his heart God has shown him that

he fights this fight for you.

So America be grateful, the fight is over

there.

Be so very grateful that the fights not

over here.

p.s.

During and after the war in Vietnam

our troops were treated badly. Now

in Iraq our troops are being made to

feel like they're doing something wrong.

This because of political agenda.

It seems necessary to voice what I

know they feel.
